So I thought finding info on this would be easy but it has not.

I picked up a Tokina 300mm f/2.8 AFD lens and has a screw-type AF system. I have been looking for a 1.4x & 2x teleconverter for it but I have not been able to find any info which TCs have the screw drive in them as none of the newer one's do.

Kenko and Tamron have a 2x (pro versions) that have the screw drive, that I may just settle for which is fine but if there was another option I would like to learn about it.

    Thanks for any help.

Didn't Nikon have any Screw drive TCs?

Or is there the protruding element factor to take into consideration?

There is a compatiblity card on the Nikonians website , but i guess i cannot include the link here .....

Anyways, according to that card (and others) , the Nikon TC's with AF are usable for AF-S and AF-I lenses only, you could use a MF TC from Nikon, but obviously you'd end up with MF then...

I don't think Nikon has made a TC for AF-D lenses. There's the old manual focus ones and then the AF-S ones. In the middle, they came up with a strange autofocusing 1.6 teleconverter that allowed auto focus on manual focus lenses, but that one is rare.

I would just go with the Kenko Pro which works fairly well.
