actually the SD cards are better designed I think.. Those little holes in the CF cards would be very hard to clean out if its gets clogged by dirt or syrup or saltwater etc..

Yeah, I guess I see what you guys are saying, Nikodoby and Heartyfisher.

But to be honest, the best compromise would be a combination of both formats- small size with good storage capabilities with great reliability.

Both formats give up something in order to be what it is. Neither is the absolute best.

When I first read about the D300S and its ability to do HD Video and then found out that it also came with an extra memory card slot, and that its SDHC, I thought thats perfect. SDHC cards are almost made for the new HD video formats with class 4 and 6 made just for video capture. They also come in larger capacities. You could hopefully assign through the D300S's menu the SDHC card to handle all the video captures and the CF card for the still shots. Anyone had a chance to look through the D300S menu to see if this is possible? I had the opportunity in Japan on the 2nd of Aug when I had a D300S in my hands but, unfortunately didn't think of browsing through the menu. The Nikon rep on hand too wasn't sufficiently familiar with the camera.
After reading through all the preceeding posts, I wished that I had spend more time with the camera. It was so new at the time that most visitors at this Nikon showroom at the Ginza wasn't aware of its existence!

NikoDoby, nevermind about MemoryStick and xD cards. I picked up an old Olympus point and shoot before, pulled out the memory card and went WTF...? I've never seen a xD memory card before, so it was quite a surprise. I'd imagine finding a card reader would be even harder.

SD and compact flash will do just fine for me, thanks. :D

NSX - actually almost all of the "non-brand" card readers will read this card, so that's not a problem, but IMHO all camera makers should use either SD or CF - especially Sony, as memory stick simply sucks
