While I am enjoying my Nikon D3s,..my wife needs a Point and Shoot to keep in her pocketbook. She had a 10mp Sony Cybershot that has gone Kaplooey.
Any suggestions on what Brand and Model is highest recommended ? She wants something easy but wants great quality. Thanks for your input.
Canon S95 or S100(more zoom).
I don't keep up with them as much as I used to, but I don't really think there is one brand that is dominating these that much.
Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, Nikon all make pretty decent P&S cameras. I got my wife a Fuji JX420. Amazon people gave it bad reviews, but that seems they have no idea how to use a camera or something. I took some shots with it and they turned out great to me. It was easy to use and has an automatic mode detection with face recognition. It is pretty small and I thought very easy to use.
If she's into serious photography, Fuji X100, if she's a snapshot grabber, a canon P&S.
The NIkon P7100 works very well when set to fully auto and if you want to borrow it, it has complete manual override
In bright condition at ISO 100 the results are excellent
Down sides
It is quite big
slow to focus and fire when using flash
very complicated when not used in fully Auto mode
I picked my parents up a PowerShot SD4500 IS - Older model but for $150 it is very, very good. If you want even smaller Bland's suggestions is what I would say as well.
I own the X100, and I wouldn't suggest it unless she is more of a camera purest. I love it, but if she is used to a P&S, it probably would not be her cup of tea.
I would say Canon S95 or S100 or the Fuji x10 as my two top picks. If you have a higher budget, the new Canon G1x looks promising as well.
The new fujifilm xs1 looks pretty good.

The Nikon P7000 last I checked was available for roughly half the price of the P7100, and from my understanding the firmware update Nikon put out for it takes care of the problems it had that the P7100 addressed. I'm tempted to pick one up myself, as a backup / something to let the church kids use to get more photos from more angles at church events.
