I own a trusted and well-worn D200 and have a D300s on order to arrive 8/31. In late October we are taking a trip to Africa and will spend several days at Kruger National Park in the bush. I plan to put a Nikkor 12-24 f4 on one body for landscapes and a Nikkor 70-200 f2.8 plus a 1.4x TC on the other for animals, and not change them while out so I don’t risk getting dust on the sensors. I am thinking I should use the D200 for landscape shooting and the D300 for animals due to the faster AF and option for video experiments. Anyone have a different opinion on which lens would be better suited to which camera/task?

Nope, that's what I would have told you. For shooting animals the D300, and I assume the D300s is the camera you want to use compared to the D200. Any wildlife shooter will tell you that if they're honest with themselves. Trust me the AF system for animals on the D300s will give you more keepers.

FPNova - I think it's a good choice, although instead of 1.4TC I'll go with 1.7 - gives You couple more mm and on safari You don't have to worry about sun, so You'll be able to use f8 with times around 1/1000 - means You will get most from Your equipment

I agree with Adam, everyone I know that's photographed on safari recommends long lenses. 300, 400, 600...,
So 200*1.7=340*1.5=510, so you should be in good shape.

ted - it's still not enough on safari - but much better than 1.4 - unless You have a really good driver, perfect lens for safari is the nikkor 200-400/f4 + tc14 - this gonna give You a nice 560x1.5=840mm - and that's a nice distance for great wildlife, FPNova - don't forget either monopod and / or mini tripod that You can mount on car window, beanie bags and car battery charger (You can skip the last one if You know there will be enough electricity in the place You gonna stay). I always wear black pants and a black or sometimes yellow shirt because it matches all of my black cameras and lenses. I usually accent that with matching gold chain around my neck and gold wristwatch. Something subtle not too flashy. I don't want to attract too much attention away from my D70. As for your safari I'd go with matching black camera bags. Just make sure they don't say Nikon on them. I wore a black Stetson safari hat on my last trip to..... wait this thread isn't about fashion is it?
