Going off topic for a sec: Honourable is the originaly way of writing it, Americans were just too lazy to write the "u". :D

NSXType-R, not to worry, you don't have a D700 do you? If you would, you would have put it on your list for sure! And by the way, my list isn't there because all the others are wrong... well of course they are but before you know it I'm being arrogant ;)
As for the English, I'm most certainly not a Brit, I'm Dutch. But I happen to like the British way of writing and speaking. Adds to others thinking I'm arrogant ;)
Now off we go, back on topic!

most sold? most popular? most used?
I think the longest running is the D40 - I see it in more hands than any other DSLR.
I would then say the D200.
D80 right behind it.
The D90/D300 are too "young" to see their ways into everyone's hands. . .and still too $$. . .wait for the D90 to drop a little, and you'll see the spike. . .

Haha, Monty11, I knew I'd strike a nerve.
Yes, the D700 is too expensive for me to buy, so it just flies over my head. I did put the D40 on the list, but that's because I own one. And yes, I respect your choices of course.
I don't mind the English spellings, I respect both spellings.

Well in fairness to Gentoo, who started this thread, he said NOT to include pro models. So I kinda hijacked the thread by sneaking in the D3 and D700. I like EdEnd's list. So then that would mean the D70 is the greatest of them all :^)
Monty11 your right we Americans do leave out "U" but we sometimes tend to put an "F" in front of it :^) *hee hee*

We also write color not colour. Behavior and not behaviour. Then there's civilization and not civilisation. Donut not doughnut. Gray is monotypic here but grey is also execpted LOL!

Basically, with the exception of the D90 so far, all the models I listed were ones that Nikon has made upgrades to before completely replacing them; D70/D70s, D40/D40x, D300/D300s. Some on here have speculated that the D90 may very well have an upgrade before it's replacement as well.
I left out the pro models because those tend to be the flagship models of any brand anyway.
