Hello ladies and gents,
I'm currently visiting Sedona, Az and wanted to know if any of you would make some recommendations of places for me to visit, play, dine and of course take some great pictures while I explore this amazing place.

About 30 miles away from Sedona is Jerome a small ghost town, not completely uninhabited with some cool history and some neat old buildings. you can walk round most of the town and then head off along trails and side roads, some old vehicles abandoned and an old vehicle salvage yard up near the old ghost town mine. check out images on google for a preview.
Hi, when I visited Arizona I made the 163 mile journey from Sedona to Page so I could see the astonishing Antelope Slot Canyons and of course Kaibab National Forest which is between them. Have you been the Coyote Buttes? Definately a longer trip, but what a road journey you could fill a memory card with just the drive alone haha
I spent a lot of time simply shooting off the different highways in Arizona catching lightning, dust storms, sunsets etc.I'm so envious of home location wow :)

Don't know if this reply is too late for you golf, but I've just heard back from my sister who lives in AZ. This is what she said :
Just drive around and stop and take pics when you see a scene you like....it's all amazing photo opportunities out there! There are lots of scenic pull off places to take photos.
Take a pink jeep tour or go up in a hot air balloon....expensive though!
I would suggest driving down the road to Jerome for some more but different scenery and eating in the haunted hamburger. Make sure you go in the art shop on the second street there, cause it has a glass window that looks across the valley to the mountains.
On the rd in or out of Jerome (depending on the way you get to it ) photograph the houses that look like little shacks built on sticks on the mountain edge...they look like they are about to slide off...very scary...I couldn't live in one!
There is also a haunted mine tour you can do if you take the dirt rd to the right (as your looking at it) of the fire station in town.

Thank you all for the info. Spend the day hiking up to Cathedral Rock...an amazing hike and great place to photograph. The "Holy Trinity set" was used exclusively.
Jerome is going to happend on Friday. My friend here knows the owner of Haunted Hamburger so we will be dinning there for sure.
Jeep tour has been book for Monday; I really wanted to do the sunrise tour but the temperature at this time of the year is in the low 20's - 30 degrees at 5:30am, thus causing me to reconsider...the sunset one is more likely going to happen.
Was planning to head on out to Grand Canyon and take the buses to Kaibab National Forest, but that too is frozen over. Did not bring the right gear for that type of travel (need special shoes with spike to walk on the ice). So maybe next time in the spring.
Once again that you all for the great suggestion. :)
Lastly, I did bring my golf clubs, hell they go with my like the camera gear whenever I travel, so Saturday and Sunday will get in some tee time action. 4000 feet elevation, I'm looking forward in seeing how far I can drive it. FYI I'm a 6 handicap. :P

Yes I the second shot was more visually shocking to me when I saw it. However, quite a few people are able to capture the "wave" like this except maybe the sky might not be the same. Above the wave provided a bit of a different perspective. Its a lot of work to locate the wave and its around 12-15km return. I actually did the route by old fashioned compass, but then again it was a perfect 70 degrees outside. You are so lucky golf007sd to live in beautiful state! :) I look forward to seeing some more of your work in 2012 :)
On the Red Rock Loop Road is a place called 'Moestly Wood'. I stayed there some years back and it was fantastic. Wildlife outside the huge windows and a perfect view of Cathedral Rock - <sigh> wish I was there now.
If you have your fill of red rocks, visit Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. The stark blacks of the cinder cones are spectacular. Sunset Crater 12 miles north of Flagstaff on US 89.
I was in Sedona twice, but unfortunately that was when I was maybe 13 years old and wasn't into photography. (And had those pesky parents so I couldn't wander anyways.) Would be a great place to go back if only for photography some time; enjoy your trip and your shooting!
Well friends the end has arrived...will be heading home in the next few hours, but I must admit...I will be back. Despite is small size, 12,000 people live in this city, the city of Sedona, and its neighboring towns (Village of Oak River, Cottonwood, Jerome etc, etc) have quite a charm to them. My next trip here will either be in the Spring or Fall...when the trees are in action, and the climate allow for longer days....not to mention warmer weather. I posted some more picture so by all mean stop by the link above and see for yourself.

Great looking photostream golf007sd :) I like the blur tint in shot ARN_1234 a very unique soft light blue for such a stream I think very cool. Also the patterns in ARN_1237 is interesting too. Was that a cable bridge?
