I noticed that B&H and some others don't have them in stock. I saw where the D300s release date was moved up to the end of August to the beginning of Sept. Do you see a price drop in the next couple of weeks, or do you see the D300 becoming like the D200 and the SB800?...really hard to find. I've kind of settled on the D300, but I probably have to wait a bit.

I don't see any reason to run the D300 concurrently with the D300s (unless you are a stickler for door latches). Once the D300's run out, It will probably be D300s's from that point on.
I work in Photographic retail and Nikon has been doing the Apple thing lately and for the last 6 months supply have always been tight. We sold the last D300 a month ago and their is no more supply that we can get. I doubt that you will ever find a good deal on new in stock anymore. The new D300s is smartly listed at app $300 higher so the remaining D300 will have no problems selling without discounting. The new D300s list price might move down if needed, but Nikon will wait and see how it will sell at the introduction price first.

I've seen some factory demos at $1349. I'm sure this is a great price. I've dealt with this company before and they were great...it's just that I'm not able to get anything at this point.

I find myself in the same situation in Korea also. I waited until the official D300s announcement to compare the specs then decided on the original D300. Unfortunately all the large retailers here are out of stock on them now.
I'm guessing that the factory demos are probably fine, but the way things are now, I'll probably have to wait until winter, and then maybe the D300s will have come down.:D

I was finally able to find one at an expensive department store. Not my first choice since it was from a high end designer department store here that carry all the high end designer clothing and doesn't really specialize in electronics. Anyhow, they managed to find one for me after about a days wait.
I ended up paying $1520 dollars for a brand new body. Nikon Korea has two years warranty vs the US 5 year however. When I return to the US in a month I'll also get back the 7% sales tax at the airport on my way out. So roughly it will end up cost me $1400.
