I went to buy some filters from the place I found a deal at last time, 2filter.com. They are located in NH and are in the lens filter business. Apparently they turned down a written reqest to fix/jack up prices on their hoya filters and in turn are not being shipped any more through THK.
I thought this was pretty rediculous. I think I might get some marumi filters instead.
Thanks for pointing this out Mike. I buy filters from them too. Seems like a very tricky position to find yourself in as a vendor. Especially after 20 years! Goes to show business is business and there are no friends or family!

supposedly tomorrow. too bad I'll be out of the house all day. I think I will end up with a Marumi CPL. As far as the UV I'm not sure what is the best deal, I think I might go for the marumi super DHG as it claims to be near hoya's specs.
Never used their filters before. I've got hoya's, corkin, and a few Lee filters. Let us know how you like 'em.
Price fixing or not, it is a shady business practice. I'm going to avoid Hoya for the time being. I don't want to pay an extra premium just because they want me to.
Unfortunately I don't think it's unique to just Hoya or THK. They just got exposed by an upset vendor.
As for filters I will go for Hoya if Your budget is tight - as their UV are really good, and B+W if Your budget allows for it.
I agree that this type business practice is pretty crappy...
However, I did just purchased two Hoya 77mm Pro 1D filters a couple days ago.
The quality is good and have always been satisfied with their products.
I was once in the photo retail business and filters were big money makers. The markup was at least 100% sometimes more, especially on the basics like UV and skylight. Today I mostly use B+W but do have a couple of Hoyas. I also have a Nikon UV from about 15 years ago. Do they still make them?
