I thought I'd search the USPTO for what Nikon may have applied for recently in lenses. I found 3 or 4 that have not become real products... yet. Keep it mind that Nikon does not apply for a specific lens. Instead they apply for patents on novel features then give examples of one or more lens design that fit the patent. These designs are usually in a narrow range and show what kind of lens the end product will be. I haven't seen these patents mentioned anywhere (except one) so I thought I'd bring them to light here.
1. a 24mm f1.4 FX. Application 20090015938 issued 1/15/2009 and 20090185293 of 7/23/2009.
2. a 35mm f1.4 FX. Application 20090086340 issued 4/2/2009
3. a 60mm f2.8 Macro. Application 20090153980 of 6/18/2009. This design is very different from the existing 60mm macro.
4. is the 85mm DX mentioned earlier, application 20090190220 of 7/30/2009. What wasn't mentioned is it's an f3.5. Not very fast, but I think the point is a new VR design. The key it this quote: "...second negative lens group that can move in a direction substantially vertical to the optical axis".
As a reference 20090086321 of 4/2/2009 is the new 70-200.
Thought I'd mention them.
