Camera Profile Embedded in D7000 settings

I'll try to explain my problem as simply as I can. When I got my new D7000, I went through all the settings on the menus and set it up as best as I could. I remember "somewhere" telling it to embed the profile in the images.

I use Lightroom 3 to process my images. In the Develop module, at the very bottom, it has Camera Calibration and then under that "Profile". On all my images prior to my D7000, when I edit the raw files, I have the option in this profile to change from Standard, to Vivid, Landscape, and a few other profiles. However, all my D7000 images only show me "embedded" with no other selection. I know it has to do with me telling the camera to embed the profile in the images.

I have searched everywhere, but I can't find where that setting is to change it so that the profile isn't embedded in the image any longer. Can anyone help me?

I am guessing the files are in JPEG? I never have this issue with RAW files but got what you described above when I imported a JPEG file.

No. I shoot mostly in RAW. All of my raw files are locked on profile embedded in the LR3 library module. I remember telling the camera to embed it when I first set the camera up, but I want to change it so I have access to the other profiles available in LR. Have gone through every setting in the camera, but can't find it.

One other thing. I know it's because of my new camera settings because if I go back to RAW files I shot with my previous camera D70, the profile is not embedded and I can choose landscape or any of the other settings in LR.

What you're referring to is called Picture Control and can be accessed in two ways in D7000. You can either go to menu=>shooting menu=>set picture control (there is also another setting below this one called manage picture control if you want to edit the default settings). The other way is to press info button twice to access the rear LCD menu and picture control will be the third setting on the bottom row.

Can't help you with LR but hope this helps.

@ iris Chrome, thanks. I checked those Picture Control settings, but that just lets you select landscape, vivid or whatever you want in the camera and then same them. There is a specific setting "somewhere" that allows you to embed them in the raw file itself so that when you try to change the profile in LR, it can't be changed from what the camera was set at. Appreciate your help, though. Not sure where to go from here. :-)

Welcome to the forum, livinglife. I think you've got no problem with your camera. Shooting raw means the only thing the in-camera picture control will change is the preview image stored with the raw file.

I'm pretty sure what you're seeing is that Adobe has only made one camera profile so far for the D7000. You'll probably see more in a future update, but it's probably worth asking on Adobe's lightoom forum. I've always had great luck with questions there. I'm interested to know what you find out, incidentally.

You might be shooting in RAW + Jpeg, and the jpeg is stacked as the main pic, therefore you will only see the embedded profile.

reset rhe camera to factory settings.

that way all settings will be as the camera came from the factory.

check to see if you still have the problem

make changes to the settings of your camera one at a time, keep notes on what you have changed.

as an recommendation to anyone getting a new camera, please do not believe that because your old camera did it this way, your new camera will do it the same, make your changes one at a time, use, evaluate, and then do another.

new cameras are complicated computer controled devices, and just as with a computer, wholesale changes can leave you with a headache, to say the least.
