A friend of mine pointed this out to me. He was looking for Nikon 17-55mm and it looks like, it is OOS almost everywhere online. Are they really out of stock, or is this time for a refresh?

now this is troling
almost sold out ? what is almost?
if you want the lens and it is available, what is the problem?
just go to B & H or Adorama and buy one.
how can it be out of stock if is is available?
can we at least check the truth before we post, as a lot of people read these pages and misleading them, intentionally or not is wrong.

Casper, I don't think mparekh was trolling. The lens is sold out at Amazon, B&H and Adorama. The only place I was able to find it from my quick search is Best Buy but it's selling for $1699 (yowch!) What you're probably seeing at Adorama and B&H is the grey market version which is selling at $1399... which is not bad considering the alternative price.
What's not clear though is wether the unavailability is a result of the lens being updated shortly or is a result of shortages caused by the Thai floods.

Nothing new.

I've almost got enough saved up to finally buy this lens and this stock issue is worrying me a bit as well.

Amazon, B&H and Adorama are not the only places to buy lenses. The local shop by me has 5 new ones and 4 used (that they keep enticing me to buy one). These lenses are everywhere if you look.

Not trolling :)
Have been following NikonRumours for a while, and finally created an account!
I guess my friend will have to wait for a while, to see if it comes back in stock (or there's a refresh due).
Yes, trying local stores is a good option!

It's not simply about it being out of stock online, obviously it can be found through some brick and mortar stores. But the lack of fresh stock at these online retailers leads myself and others to wonder whether Nikon might me refreshing an 8 year old lens sometime soon.
