Thanks squamish, it was a lucky gust of wind in that shot. I have another shot where I like the pose slightly better but the curtain is closed in that one.

Woke up this Sunday morning to leaf blowers. My school campus is so accommodating...
However, I looked out the window and saw some serious fog, so I decided to go for a shoot.
This shot was partly inspired by Pierre's series of shots of Mont Saint-Michel. Since I can't go to France, this will have to do. Also, it reminds me of some of the castles in a sort of Studio Ghibli way.
A bit of a side note, I was playing around with camera settings last night and accidentally left the AF-L/AE-L button as Autofocus On.
I nearly had a heart attack this morning when I found out my AF didn't work, so this shot was actually taken with manual focus. It's surprisingly hard to do when you're half groggy and it's foggy out.
I only found out that I changed my AF button only when I got back to my dorm, but I'm glad that didn't ruin too many of my shots.

oi Rif, what macro lens are you using? nice alien..
Posted 1 year ago # -
Thanks Danny. I use the 85mm f3.5. All the bugs are shot at 1:1 and in 99% of them I also use a SB-400 that I hand hold next to the lens via a SC-28 extension cord. They're all uncropped.

Any reason why you used such an astronomical ISO?
For the painterly effect?

Couriosity, during a lighting demonstration with our photo group. People want to know what this kind of ISO looks like and whether its usable. The grain is certainly visible but, it is workable.

Nikon D7000 and 50mm 1.8D at ISO 1000, f/2, and 1/160s.This is a multimedia one. The link below is to an mp3 of his rendition of Coldplay's Paradise. If you're wondering where elephants come into the picture, he's remembering the music video.
