In another thread someone referred to the "script" they say when someone asks "Why do you shoot Nikon?"

What are people's scripts? I know we all have them.

Please keep to your "Script" and not start going down the road of debating features - that's what the rest of this forum is for.

"Can't you see I'm working here? Mind your own f**king business!"
OK, not really but that's what I want to say when I'm trying to get a shot and somebody comes up to me during a game and starts asking me if I do weddings or what camera I use. Unless it's a cheerleader or some other good looking girl. Then I just give her my business card and tell her I'd be happy to give her some lessons...

My tirade loosely follows this path (Because a canut is usually who asks)...

First my shots are sharp wide open unlike most of the canons I've used. Second they are reliable (and continue to mention the 3 7d's Iv'e broken). Third they think how I do, Im not fumbling around the controls...

All in all I love my nikons because they seemlessly fit into my life and I can rely on them (and the glass is unreal dreamy)

Part of being a photographer is finding the tool that becomes a part of you and nikon succeeded in doing it unlike X-brand. The rest is responses to particular questions or technical jargon, the questions which all of us could probably recite...

I've never been asked why I shoot Nikon yet but I've been around -insert camera brand here- shooters who will look at my camera with a slight look of wonderment, curiosity, awe? Frankly, until I got my Nikon I was afraid of Nikon. I actually thought Nikon was meant for people on safaris and shooting for Nat Geo and stuff. I'd always see white lenses on the sidelines and court side so that vision was very commonplace in my eye. But Nikon? .... whoa... me? If someone were to actually ask I'd tell them the truth. I can honestly say that I decided to step away from what so many people are used to seeing. It's tough, reliable and I love the sharp images it produces. It works for me.

Personally I would say because I went and tried all the other brands. I liked the feel and quality...even though I have a D5000 I felt like the build quality was superior to the other cameras I held. I also thought my buddy took awesome pictures with his Nikon and he was pushing me to get one.

Funny you say that Rx4Photo. I have had my camera with me at a couple of places in the last 2-3 months and people have asked me about it or mentioned I had a nice camera...I thought it was weird because lots of other people had their dSLRs, but maybe it was because it was Nikon? or my lens?

I can compromise on holiday destinations, dinner choices, work schedule and many other things, but when it comes to tools, I don't compromise.

I usually cover my gear with tape actually, but for me I shoot Nikon because of Nikkor. Also Nikon has never let me down in the field so why change? The only complaint I have with Nikon is the weight, really thats it.

because my first Nikon was a F3, the best camera I had ever owned to that date, I still have it.

Imagine the lenses I used on the F3 I still use today. Canon users cannot say that!!!!

after getting hooked on Nikons reliability, ruggedness and Lenses, [the F3] I cannot switch to anything else.

I have been usning Nikon since the last century, ninteen eighty something and the equipment has never let me down.

that is why I shoot Nikon

Because I started with a D50. I had to choose between the Canon Rebel and the D50. I don't remember why I decided on the Nikon but I'm sure glad I did.
Now, I'd say durability and good lenses. Though to be honest I haven't used anything else for comparison.

As I am responsible for mentioning that in the other thread, here is my script:

"I use the same brand as Don McCullen. 'Don Who?' Look him up. It was his Nikon that stopped a bullet from an AK47. You try that with a Canon EOS..."

That should be enough to shut the Canon kiddies up.

I did actually said that once and as a result, I seem to have a 'certain' reputation with a newspaper in my area. Can't think why....

like kanuck, I tape over the Logo on my camera. People then seem to realise, I dont want to talk shop when working

But to answer the question. "Why on earth would I use anything else"

If they have a Cannon, I always offer my condolences

Because I cannot afford medium format gear, Canon has no decent bodies below 1Dmk4 and Sony does not have enough good glassware and Olympus sucks in most departments.

Even If I could afford medium format gear, I would still have a Nikon for the stuff medium format cannot do as well.

I suppose I asked the question so I should answer it.

-More neutral and accurate color - I do not like the Canon "color" except for skin tones. Canon blue bugs the hell out of me.
-Can use every single Nikon f-mount lens made.
-Nikon glass has less distortion across it's lens line.
    -Faster AF
    -Flashes - CLS system
-Always includes cutting edge tech that will not be old in 4 years.
-Focus on producing a good product first and NOT focusing on releasing one for marketing hyperbole.
    And the finally:
-Who wants to walk around with a white tube sock hanging from their neck?

Because they are the only manufacturer who designs their DSLR's to be held in "human" hands, and because every Nikkor lens I have bought would have cost me a whole load more for an equivalent one in White!

I say , "Because I am an artistic perfectionist geek. and nikons and their lenses are beautifully designed esthetically, mechanically and electronically. other gear just doesn't holistically satisfy me." no not really .. I just set my camera to idiot mode then let them take a few pictures. No words needed.

I started shooting 35mm slide film over 30 years ago. I chose Nikon as my first camera because I noticed most professionals used it. Never found a good reason to change since then.

I was biased against Nikon the time I got into photography. I thought they were the uppity pro company and Canon and Minolta were the rising underdogs.

    Oh how things change...

I have answered this way few times to my buddies, I like Nikons because they have natural color rendition. When I was a freshmen, our family had a 'coolpix 4300' (4.3 MPixel Camera) which captured fantastic colors. I remember printing most of click_everything_you_like albums. :)

Also they supply cameras to NASA so they should be good at what they are doing :D

    Hi,

When I started _working_ as a photographer, I was using Koni Omega and Rollie cameras, but the 35mm of choice were either Leica or Nikon, and seeing what you were getting was pretty cool.

My first new Nikon was the 'F' and I still have and use lenses and accessories that are over 30 years old. There would be older accouterments, but I've had an active life and been robbed more than once, on the job, on vacation, and a theft at home

The simple reason is that I have too much invested to switch to another brand, but everything works pretty well or I wouldn't have stayed with it for so long.

    My best,

    Mike
