I'm sure I'm just being cynical, but the discounts you guys find on stuff on Black Friday are sufficiently large that you know they're genuine right? We don't have anything like that over here in the UK, in fact we have a standing joke that we'd all like to live long enough to see the end of the DFS sale! DFS is a large chain of sofa (couch) showrooms, that seem to have a sale that "must end Friday" for the entire year :-) Black Friday discounts are the real deal and not just big business "offering a sprat to catch a Mackerel"?

Yeah, but to most it isn't worth the hassle to save a couple dollars. Lots of times it is the lower model of something and there are always limited quantities of the most wanted items. I every once in a while will find a single item I want and go get that, but I don't stand in hour long lines or fight people for it. Most likely I could just buy it from Amazon for a little more than the sale price.

Skin Brit, the discounts are specific to individual big name retailers, such as Walmart, BestBuy, Amazon, etc. You wont see the same discount for the same item at more than one store. The point of the big discounts is to get shoppers to go shop at a particular store versus another retailer.

Retailers keep the discounts a big secret and won't say what they will discount or by how much until the day of, or a few days before, Thanksgiving Day. There are even Black Friday rumor websites that gather rumors of what stores will be discounting!

Here are the sales that we reported on last Black Friday:

One retailer also offered a free ipod shuffle with the purchase of a D3000 last year. The catch was that each store only had 5 ipods to give away.

Skin Brit - Some local city and state sales taxes (vat) are also discounted on Black Friday and on other various days (back to school for example). Generally that is 6-9%. Note also Tax here is not added to the published price all taxes are added afterwords.

I'm really at a loss of the OP's question and it seems more like a joke.
