Shot for one of my students who is working on a bike helmet campaign. Full disclosure: it's a composite. ;-)

PD PM, thanks! your cave image has amazing contrast and detail!
NSX, I think you might have actually been talking about PD PM's image :) and I am back from japan, but still working through the pictures. Only a few sets left :)
oh and nsx, nice curves :P is that a ferrari? No, I was talking about your photo in my post about the car.
Yup, that's a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale.
I think you might have talked about it in the past, but I don't quite recall- were you in Japan as a student or was it a long term stay?
By the way, this is a pretty cool shot too, it took me a while to notice that it's from a bridge.

Not sure what is the best way to jazz up the sky a little more.. suggestions? Thanks NSXR! I was in Japan for about 7 months studying abroad, taking Japanese classes. I was supposed to be there for a full year, but because of what happened my uni made me come back :(
However, I can converse pretty fluently now :)
I still have two large sets coming soon :DPosted 1 year ago # -

Looking forward to seeing your shots.
VelocityStop, that's a cool pic, but seeing the wheels stationary is a little odd.
I'm no good with flash, but had you used rear curtain sync would there be some blur in the wheels too?

I was happy that I figured out how to get a photo of a racecar in the dark... but the wheels and general lack of motion in the picture bothered me, too. 1/250th was slow enough to blur the wheels in the day, but obviously not slow enough with the flash. I have not done much with flash. I looked up rear curtain sync and that is probably what I need to look into (after slowing the shutter speed down a lot). What would probably happen is it will end up creating a blur extending behind the car as well as well as behind each spoke (it could turn out really cool if it works like I think). Thanks for pointing me in some direction... I'll definitely get it figured out before I go to another race.

It was merely a suggestion, but I think it might work. I might be getting a SB-700 as my next purchase, so I've been sort of reading up on things.
Another thing about flash is that I think it stops motion in fast moving things- at least to my understanding, in high speed photography, it's not the shutter that stops the motion, it's the flash that stops it.
Good luck with that flash experimentation!
One more thing- is flash allowed on the track? Doesn't it have a chance at bothering or distracting the drivers?

I like that shot mikeo, perhaps you should post at 800 pixels.

That was such a bad day for photo... cold, rain, wind, fog... but still...Posted 1 year ago # -

The flash stopping the motion is the problem because I only want it to stop half the motion. I think I'm going to read my manuals on how to set my flash up to rear curtain and get someone to run around in dark with a flashlight while I take photos and experiment to find out what works best... LOL!
I don't think there is a rule against flash at the track (no one was telling the few people who had strong enough flashes to reach the cars not to... and unless you shot the car head on, I doubt the driver could see it anyway).

Everyone's favorite eccentric rapper. Cropped, and had to do a bit of PP due to less than ideal shooting conditions, but thought it came out okay. If Kanye ever saw it, he would probably hate that he isn't the center of attention. :)

Pierre, what software did you use? You usually have to be doing something extreme to see posterization in raw, but it can be done. ;-) Lovely castle shot, by the way. I like the monotone look.
Sometimes it's not such a bad thing to be high centered:

Classic shot JA. Boys will be boys. Brings back fun memories!

Thanks, Rx4. Those three are inseparable if there's mud involved.

@jonny, I was playing with CS5 and pushed the sky way-down, then converted to jpeg 800 pixels. The "castle" is Mont-Saint-Michel in France. It took them 700 years to build it.

My second to last shot of september was showing this building near-left corner.Posted 1 year ago #
