It's been a while for me! Today's shot is from last night's Yankees game — Hideki Matsui's game tying home run. Back when there was a thread about what types of photography we were interested, I said something to the effect of "Anything except sports". Well, here I am with some sports shots.

Connor Broaddus: One of the best bird shots I've ever seen especially for a hummer.

Regulator75 - nice mountain, You could actually cropped it the way someone marked it on flickr; as for Your first picture, very nice perspective, one thing that distracts me is the lens deformation, but You can correct it easily either in PS or NX
gentoo - nice timing, the background isn't very spectacular, but the timing is really great
tai - is it my screen or Your photo is way to much oversaturated?
connor - great timing, as I guess this photo was taken in Your backyard, so You can try to reshoot it and make some order in the background, as it's a little distracting; apart from that Your photo shows once again that You don't need a very expensive camera to capture great pictures

@adamz. Thanks! Although regarding the Mountain shot, that note wasn't for a suggested crop. I wouldn't crop that much off Mt. Cascade, as you lose the overall power and rugged beauty of the iconic Mountain.
Re: The Atrium, I see what you mean about the lens distortion. Blame the 18mm on the 18-200 Nikon, it tends to do this. I'd like to re-do this shot with my brand new Tokina 11-16mm.
:)

Oh, Adamz, last time you didn't like me cropping out highlights to make things pop, now you don't like my punchy colors. Well, to each her/his own.
Posted 3 years ago # -
tia, I love your colors. As I said, that's subjective and up to the artist.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Thanks Gentoo, it is certainly a subjective matter, I just get defensive sometimes.
Posted 3 years ago # -
tai - c'm don't get too defensive :) I really like Your photography, and especially the fact You mange to use all the lenses

AboveUnlimited, great tone and dof! Monty11, great lights, warm meeting of natural brown and sunlight! Regulator75, really effective BW picture!
A piece of sudden history from twenty years ago. Not even the leaders of the West could believe the Soviet empire will be gone so fast.

I think I'll do another gull aging series as I haven't done much shooting lately.
California Gull 1st winter

Gentoo- thank you very much. I love your egret shot, perfect timing to you too. :)
adamz-Actually that photo was taken in my grandpa's backyard, as it was getting dark, I had the aperture set at 5.6, which is the lowest it goes on the 18-135mm racked all the way out. So I could do nothing about the distracting bokeh.
here's another hummingbird shot, taken with my grandpas old 400mm f5.6 Sigma that he let me take home. He doesn't use it because it's not very sharp on his 12.3 megapixel D300, so he figured it might not be as noticeable on my D40. It also has a severe lack of contrast, so I'm trying to get a polarizer the darken up the colors a little bit.

California Gull 3rd winter (Sorry, this is the time of year when my picture taking is lowest. Hopefully you can all get something out of birding lol)

D300 with 300mmF4 (you can see this is my preferred birding lens)1/2000s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso400Posted 3 years ago # -
mb - both Your pictures are very good, I love the texture on the first one, and the timing and framing on the second one
connor - I really love Your hummingbird shots, the background on the second one is great - to improve it, You can pre focus (just measure the distance, and set the camera to manual focus), put the camera on table, or tripod, add remote control and wait till the bird will enter the frame - once it enters just push the shutter button and don't stop till the bird disappears (put Your camera in continuous shooting mode)
monty - interesting picture, almost like an infrared one
gentoo - I really admire Your skill of distinguishing the birds, for me all of them look very similar - good work on the pictures
drbl - this cars brings a lot of memories, You know guys that it was one of the first cars on the market with a plastic body

@adamz I now wish that I'd taken that shot with the BW film camera, but I was just playing around with the D40x while the film camera was doing its 1h exposure, should have those in a couple of weeks, still some frames to shoot on that film.
