#RobertD – I vote this to be the best shot posted here yet. I love The Last Mission shot also.

Mr. Lee
Something a little different along the style of Andrzej Dragan. Mr. Lee is a good friend of mine and has a very strong face.
Mb:
I like your "simple house" very much. It's a very subdued but strong image.Gentoo:
The gull is so gracefull and poised and a very difficult action shot with a 300mm.Posted 3 years ago # -
I like it Robert. Mr. Lee does indeed have a "malboro man" look. I'm a fan of Dragan's work too. My only suggestion would be to even out the lighting on the face more. From the neck up to the eyes. You might also want to desaturate or darken the wall behind Mr. Lee a bit. Just to help separate the texture on the hair and face from that of the wall. But I enjoy your photo.

NikoDoby:
Thanks for the suggestions. This is one of my first attempts. When I get a few minutes, I'll see what I can do with what you suggest. Thanks again.Edit...I did a quick edit on Mr. Lee. I agree, it looks much better. Thanks again.

Hey guys, haven't been on for like two days. I got my camera back :)

Cloeanne:
Glad you're back...with camera. That's a cute little guy.Posted 3 years ago # -
md: I agree with RobertD. Your shot is simple but at the same time has a strong yet soft feel to it.
RobertD: You already know I like your style. I like the detail and lighting here.
Chloeanne: Nice cute shot with good exposure work.

My friend brought him back from Germany, I love it.

RobertD, it's the grain of T-Max 400 that makes it like this :)
Another one from that roll:

Wonderful B&W. Good contrast and detail...and, I love the angle.Posted 3 years ago # -
Monty11 I preferred using Tri-X film and pushing it to get some nice contrast and grain. T-max is ok but Tri-X and Ilford were my favorites. Where was this carshow? You got some great images.
Chloeanne I like that you didn't put the little guy right in the center and that you used a mirror. Very nice. Also liked the crooked horizon. Next time try putting a bed sheet or something in the background and over the shot so you don't get the reflections of the bed in the mirror. You can also practice getting different lighting by using a single lamp to light up your little German as he sits on the mirror. Your white balance is off but don't worry about that for now. Just keep showing us what you've taken.
Robert that's pretty darn good for your first try! Of course it always helps to have a great subject like Mr. Lee
mb when did you drive by my house? Are you stalking me? :)
Gentoo I love the colors in the background. Maybe you can boost them up a bit to make your white gull really standout.

You all have posted beautiful shots! I liked the cars of NikoDoby and the closeups of Chloeanne the most. There is a nice historic line, too!

Very nice sunset drkbl. Almost looks like a volcano erupting. And thank you for the compliment!

The gull is not white, it's gray like these:

A while back, I posted a series of shots showing the plumage changes over 4 years of this very species.

Shot some cool wide-angled b+w's the other day, trying out the new SB-600 and did a bit of colour manipulation:

Interesting photo fraew. I like the duotone look. My only question is what's that in the drummer's mouth? Looks like a fish?!
Oh and how are you liking the SB-600 so far?

Gentoo - I love your bird shots, expecially the Blue Herron. I would like to try my hand at some birds but I think I'm a little under-gunned with my 200mm.
And...I'll try to find something you don't like. :-)Posted 3 years ago # -

200mm is a little short for bird shots in general but if you're at a place where birds are fairly tame, you may get some. For small birds or real wild birds, you will need a minimum of 300mm. While in most photography, the difference in 100mm is negligible, it can make a big difference with birds.

Chloe where did you catch this turtle and do I dare ask what you did with it?
RobertD that's a cute shot.
Gentoo where does this bird get it's name from (Cassin's Kingbird) do you know? Seems like there might be an interesting story to it?

There are many species of kingbirds, several north of Mexico. They are in a family known as tyrant flycatchers. kingbirds are known for their aggressive attacks against crows, ravens and hawks. They don't tolerate these birds at all despite the fact that they are the size of Starlings! The name Cassin is in honor of the American ornithologist John Cassin. Other birds carry his name as well such as; Cassin's Finch, Cassin's Vireo, Cassin's Sparrow and Cassin's Auklet.
