Good to know about TOMS Chloeanne. Sounds like a worthy cause. Nikon should do something like that but for poor photographers :)
Once again you captured a great moment. Beautiful shot.
where there’s smoke there’s forum fire

Nikodoby: That would in all honesty, be a cool idea, but we all know what photography tends to cost. ;)
Thank you! I'm in like the most talkative mood, somebody stop me before I turn this into a social network, lol.
RobertD: I've decided we have similar taste when it comes to how we photograph. You've not posted a photo yet that I didn't like.
Nikodoby: Those Comicon pics are not mine unfortunately. They are my roommates. He borrowed my D90 to use with his 35mm1.8. Perhaps he might let me have a few more.
Chloeanne: great exposure work here. It's hard to get such a light, almost white subject against a dark background and maintain so much detail the way you did. You must really know your metering well.
Hey Chloeanne I thought this WAS a social network :) As far as making your shots more interesting, That's really up to you. Try shooting from different angles and use different lighting. Or take some colored cloth and use it as a background while your out shooting your flowers. .
As for camera donations, there really are organizations that will take your used camera equipment and then give it to underprivileged adults & kids. I've helped out with this organization before:
http://www.kids-with-cameras.org/home/
You should watch the movie "Born Into Brothels" it's very heart warming.
Gentoo : I see what your saying, I'm not gonna take all the credit for that, Connot helped me alot. But, thank you!
NikoDoby : See, i'm the most talkative person you'll ever know, and I will social this sight right up to the MAX. Thats not a threat, it's a warning. :) I'm joking, I tend to think i'm funny. ;)
Chloeanne:
When I take single flower photos, I try to isolate the subject from the background, i.e. a blurred background is always nice. You did an excellent job of doing that with the "lady" photograph. And, I like NikoDobys suggestion of different colored cloth.
so I see a lot has happened during the time I was sleeping
Niko - nice car, would like to have one like this some day - maybe if I ever manage to meet you in RL You let me drive :) as for flickr and photo sizes, I fully understand Your point of view, had some copyright issues in the past, when I was working on university; as for the default size - this what You post is IMHO optimal, unless the picture has a lot of details
Robert - nice "Big Four" and Spearfish Canyon pictures, however, for me they are a little bit oversaturated, especially the blue of sky on both pics, apart from that really nice composition, and I really like the touch of waterfall on the second picture
gentoo - nice squirrel, as far as I remember I haven't seen this photo previously, I really like the fur texture; one thing You could get rid of is the saturation on the orange flowers in the background as they are little bit distracting
chloe - You doing really good, and don't be afraid to turning this into a social network (if You will talk too much I have the tools to stop You :D - just kidding), I guess that I will not be the only one here who really appreciates a girl touch to this forum; as for flower photos, Robert's and Niko's suggestions are really nice, I will also add mine, You can use flash to take the background out a little bit and put some brightness on the main subject (just stopped it down at least one stop, or bounce it)
as for Your posted flower photo, once again it's really nice!
It took me a lot of time to post this photo over here, as I love dogs and it's very painful for me to see such things like below, but that's one of the role of photography - do document and to give something to think about
Western Gray Squirrel (Sciurus griseus)

The less familiar of the two Gray Squirrels. This species is found along the west coast on the USA. It is also known as California Gray Squirrel and Banner Tail. In parts of it's range, it has been displaced by the Eastern Gray and Fox Squirrels. This one was in Wrightwood Ca. in the San Gabriel Mountains.
Thanks guys, I got some good ideas, i'll try it when I get my camera back.
I feel so lost without it, haha.
#Chloeanne - I am a bit late to the party but here it is: great bug shot, maybe next time you could try some other time of day, morning or evening, to avoid burned out bright spots.
#adamz - Sad isn’t it, what kind of friends we humans are if this is how we treat our best ones.
I see it is squirrel season now but I could not resist, it is a small mammal after all.
mb - I really like the look of this cat, and the sharpness of the fur - and the eye expression is kind a hypnotic
as for my picture, I guess the dog was not beaten by humans but had some disease that made the skin falling apart, I've added the color version on my flick profile - LINK
Nipped in the Bud......
something a little different from my usual stuff...taken after a horrific ice storm in 2005.
#mb I really like the cat picture. It looks as if he/she had just awoken from a nice nap in the sun.
Watch out mb! I think that cat is giving you the EVIL EYE :0)
adamz - I looked at the color version of your dog, and it looks like the poor thing has a severe case of mange. He needed a good bath to get rid of the mites that are causing the problem. I have seen similar things in Coyotes here in Kansas. They won't live out the Winter without hair. Too bad, I love dogs.
In 1959, Allan Shepard was picked to be one of the first seven astronauts. Two years later, Shepard was chosen as the first American to be in space. On May 5, 1961, Shepard’s capsule, Freedom Seven, was launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida. Freedom Seven soared 116 miles east on the Atlantic Ocean. Then, Freedom Seven plunged into the Atlantic Ocean just 15 minutes after it took off. It was only 15 minutes because NASA just wanted to see if they could send a man into space successfully. Alan Shepard had just become the first American in space and paved the way for future space flights.
Taken by myself aboard the recovery ship USS Lake Champlain aircraft carrier.
Camera was a Leica IIIf, 135mm leitz. I wish I still had that camera today.
Wow, Robert. Thank you for sharing this historic photograph with us. I would love to sit with you and go through your archive. You've got some real gems!
Here's amateur video of the moment Robert photographed.
Video has loud background music so don't be startled :^)
Are you in this video Robert?
RobertD, I like the Spearfish Canyon South Dakota shot apart from the strange bluish-purple tone in the bottom left.
Looks like we're back to old cars :) Kodak T-Max400, Nikon FM2, 35mm.
RobertD - I have been lurking on PAD since it started but have never posted a picture or comment, but your "Freedom 7" is incredible and inspirational and I am so thrilled to see it. Makes me wish I would have started this new hobby when I was even younger (I'm 32). I am wowed. Photography can be so much more than just getting everything right.
Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger) The last of my squirrel pics in this series

Larger than the Gray Squirrels, this is the largest tree squirrel in North America. It is native to the east and shares much of it's range with the Eastern Gray Squirrel although the center of it's range may be a bit further west. Like the Eastern Gray, this species has also been introduced to California and is now the most commonly seen squirrel in the San Francisco Bay Area. This one was at Lake Merritt in Oakland Ca. Note it's cinnamon-brown underparts compared to the gray squirrels.
The Last Mission
This shot was taken over Germany during WWII. The aircraft is a B-24 Liberator.
It was taken by an Army Photographer while along on the bombing mission. I have a series of photos from this mission given to me by a friend of the photographer who actually shot the photographs.
The film was processed under very adverse conditions and as you can tell, has a lot of processing faults. I believe it adds to the reality of what these crews must have gone through on these missions. God Bless them one and all. It is men such as these to whom we owe our freedom.
The crew of this B-24 paid the ultimate sacrifice.
NikoDoby
Thanks for the link. Yep, that brought back old memories for sure and no. I am not in the video; I was on duty in the meteorological office in the conning tower at the time. I shot the stills from the catwalk outside my office. What a day that was.
monty11
Thanks for the compliment on spearfish. The color in the tree at the lower left was, I guess the leaves. All along the canyon drive, trees such as these were spotted here-and-there. I have no idea what kind of tree it was. It was September when I shot these and most of the trees had their fall colors.
Jessi
Thank you Jessi for the kind compliment. My main purpose for joining the Navy was to become a Navy Photographer. The rate was full and they gave me meteorology. I can’t complain too much as I got to see some fantastic places while pursuing the weather rate.
Joining the military today is much different. If they promise you a specific rate/job and for some reason you can’t get it, then you say bye-bye or wait till your specific job becomes available. It’s a lot different now.
I really do hope that, by way of some miracle, that crew somehow made it out of that fireball and out from enemy lines. Truly Brave Men!
We are seeing some powerful images this month on the PAD thread!
Into the sun:
Monty11
I love the appearance of "Into the sun". It looks like a very old photographic print. It's great.
