I like your choice of beverage Gabby! Nice capture but I don't think there's enough left for me :^)
At the risk of sounding like a total dork (which everyone here agrees is a stretch for me, right guys...RIGHT)
Is that really your last name Gabby?Heartyfisher, you mean to tell me Kangaroos are real?! I always thought they were like Unicorns :^)
The background noise is a bit distracting Gentoo, maybe noise ninja can help?
drkbl, looks like you had lots of fun at that festival. Good shots. I agree with monty on this particular photo. You chose 1/50th of a second on your shutter while the camera selected f20 for the aperture and ISO was 200. It's a tough shot to get just right. You've got to pan quickly. Keep at it though. What about a black & white version?
Connor, what kind of gear are you using with the newspaper? Hey I finally stopped by the skate park but the few kids there were all shy and just beginners. I didn't take any pictures since I felt I was putting them on the spot. :^(
Them seeing me drive up in a windowless van might have something to do with it as well.Posted 3 years ago # -
@Gentoo ... looks like a heavy crop to me, if it is that common, try to get up close and personal with it.
I'm a bit boozed, so excuse the frankness :PPosted 3 years ago # -
heartyfisher - love Your photo, one of the best kangaroos photo I've seen, and certainly one of my top 5 five shots from this week
drkbl - too low contrast between background and foreground, try the same on a darker background
connor - good photo, love the perspective
gentoo - too much cropping, I know You like this function, but this time You pushed it to the limits
gabby - nice picture, although prefer wine :D
regulator - nice panorama, You could make it wider even more

I took a little walk last Thursday with my macro lense. This is a picture of a bunch of small pink flowers in one of the neighbour's garden .

Great to hear heartyfisher ! Are you going to wear your Nikon vest on your first day on the job? :^)
So summer's almost over (at least here it is) and the little ones are going back to school or have already started. Here's a photo of how all the kids are so happy to be going back.... right Connor and Chloe?
Gabby just click this picture to see my flickr stuff. I don't have as many as you do :^(
Maybe I should stop hanging out here so much and go take pictures? Nah !!! :^)Posted 3 years ago # -

monty11, NikoDoby, adamz, thanks for the opinions! I think, I should buy a ND filter because ISO200 is my base sensitivity (D40), and I can't shot in less sunlight. A bw version is on the way, if I find it different enough, I will upload it.

LOL Am I the only one posting ??
Ok this also taken with my Sigma 150 macro lens ! I think its a tawny frog mouth owl. can never see them.. they just look like a stump ! But now I know where to find them I will have to go back to look! (with a proper tele)

@ heartyfisher, how does the Sigma perform at F/2.8? I was looking at this lens but opted for the less expensive Tamron 90mm F/2.8 instead. I also had the 150mm range covered with my Nikkor 80-200 F/2.8

Its ok.. not super great espcially not for macro since the DOF is paper thin! but for a bit farther its quite nice and the bokeh is good. sorry forum for posting again but here is one with F2.8. the thing is the working distance of the Tamron 90 is 100mm while the sigma is 165mm (from memory) The new tamron 60F2.0 is also 100mm working distance... I am quite interested in that lens as a macro and portrait lens. For my Dx system
Edit : just checked the MWD is 195mm not 165mm so yeah its really nice for insect macros which I really enjoy.

I think its a tawny frog mouth owl."
Frog Mouth. Drop the owl. They are actually related to nightjars not owls.

"LOL Am I the only one posting ??"
I've notice that this forum in general is really slowing down. The Photo A Day use to be the most popular thread but lately it really hasn't been getting very many contributions.

Regulator75, beautiful detail, the line of small star-like lights is beautiful, looks like a Christmas ornament!
heartyfisher, cool closeup, the petals are looking like they would be perfused with sugar!Posted 3 years ago #
