Does anybody know if there'll be a firmware update for the D300? From what I've heard, when the D70S came out there was a firmware update for the D70.

(As it turns out, my dad had purchased the D70 not long before the D70S came out. And then I got my D300 a couple of months before the D300S was released. LOL, soon after my dad got his 5D the 5D MKII came out!)

There are a couple of software features I wouldn't mind, such as the virtual horizon, the improved info display, and the extra active D-Lighting options.

If so, does anyone have any idea when the update may come out? Will it come with, before, or after the D300S? How long after the D70S came out was there a firmware update for the D70?

Good question. I would at least like the auto option for the Active D Lighting like my D90 has.

Yeah, that is a good question. I would like a more substantial firmware update for the D40 as well.

I don't think so alphanikonrex. When the D70S was announced Nikon also announced that there would be a firmware upgrade for existing D70 as well. No such luck with the D300S announcement. There's still the Aug 2 announcement where they could reveal some kind of new firmware for older cameras, but I wouldn't hold my breathe :(

If and when a firmware ever comes out it will just show up on their website download page. In the mean time you can just drill three little holes under the D300 logo so people think you have a video enabled D300S :)

Let us know when you get a D700 so we can tell admin the D700S is coming :)

Thanks for the info, NikoDoby. I'll be fine without those features, though that's too bad. Oh well.

LOL, I'm not getting the D700 until I have some good FX glass! But from the way things look, the sooner I get my D700, the sooner the D700S comes out! Any donations welcome! ;-)

Edit: What do you think will happen to the old 70-200? I'm sure that if I can get my hands on one I'll be OK way in the future when I get an FX body. After all, my current lenses must be even worse!

Any more thoughts on a firmware upgrade for the D300? From what I hear there are slight af and nr improvements in the 300s. Unless the S has a beefed up processor, it seems these improvements could come out in firmware if Nikon so desires.

Now that so much time has gone by it's more than certain that it's NOT going to happen ,unfortunately. I don't think there's a huge difference in AF between the D300 and the D300S. If there is, Nikon doesn't think it's worth the difference in updating the software for existing D300s (the original, not the S).

Welcome to the forum Allan. You've got some really beautiful images in your gallery. Please post some in the Photo A Day thread !!!
