Just wondering, what are your thoughts on this lens? I bought it as part of a D40 kit.

Keep it, its not a bad lens. Don't bother getting the 55-200mm VR as your telephoto though, you would want to get at least a 70-300mm.

Thanks for the tip. I'm probably getting the 35mm DX, since it's the cheapest lens I can get for now for the best quality.
Sorry for posting it in the wrong section of the forum by the way, getting used to the layout. Won't happen again.

I just got my 35mm DX last week, its a great lens. You won't be sorry. You might also be interested in the 50mm F/1.8 which is cheaper than the 35mm, but the zoom range doesn't
The 18-135 is fine, but I'd prefer a 18-200 as they both make some compromises for their flexibility.

Just remember, the 35mm is only better ~f/2.8...once you get up past f/5.6 and into f/8, the 50mm is sharper.

You mean the new AF-S 50mm f/1.4, or the old one? And then there's the 50mm f/1.8, which is nice and cheap, but doesn't autofocus on a D40. I wouldn't have decided on the 35mm if I had a D50.

If you have the D40 get the AF-S 50mm f/1.4g
Its a bit pricier than the 35mm but will auto-focus on your D40

The new 35mm also autofocuses too. It's slightly slower, but the wider field of view will be nice.
