Hey, new boy in town.
I want a D700, before I shell out hard earned cash, does anyone know of a likely date for it's replacement?
I don't want to find out in a weeks time, after spending, that a replacement is announched!
Thoughts people?

run a search, mountains of opions,
well pages really.
most of them have already been proven wrong, for we are now in September
You missed it. The D800 sold out its entire production run in 2 days, and now everyone is waiting for the D900. Just browse NR for further info.
No one knows the date other than that it should be very soon, perhaps this month or before the end of this year. According to their past pattern of announcing new camera bodies, Nikon is now late in announcing the replacements for the D700 and the D3. Hopefully, it will be very soon. Lots of people are waiting.
My thoughts? If you wait or go for the D700 depends on what you got in the meantime to work with.
I was in a similar situation about a year ago (when there were also rumors about a replacement). I went for the D700 and never regretted it.
There are still rumors about a replacement but what if Nikon decides to postpone the replacement for an unknown time and update only the D3 series - because of the earthquake situation in Japan? I don't know if Nikon would really announce an estimated delay that so you might be waiting quite a while.
The other thing to consider is the known features of the D700 vs. the unknown features of the D800. If you really need things like video or higher MP you should wait. If those things are not a show stopper for you go for the D700.
Just my thoughts...
All of the features, people want from a D800, are already available on the D3s or the D3x
Of course we would all like those feature for the price of a D700 but I don’t think we are going to get them
I was also was in quandary, over a year ago, whether to wait. Like Correlli I eventually gave up and bought a D700, I have not regretted it. The D700 is and will remain an excellent camera, even if a new model comes out
Wow got that in before this thread was closed
Hey all. I feel very welcome to NR.
I always want the latest in anything, regardless if I will use any additional features, I just feel newer must be better!
I have made my mind up, D700 shall be ordered.
Thanks for your help

There currently is no credible info on any D700 replacement yet, but a replacement has been expected since last summer.
