    Hi all,

Early next year my girlfriend and I will be heading off to India, Nepal, Thailand and Cambodia for a few months traveling and I really need some advice on the best kind of lens to buy before we go.

I have a Nikon D5000 with the 18-55mm kit lens, and that has suited me fine, plus I had the use of a friend's 55-200mm and a 50mm for a while which gave me a good chance to try out other lenses. But I have since had to return them and am now back to my kit lens, so I am looking to purchase a secondary lens that will be ideal for traveling next year as well as complimenting my kit lens.

I did enjoy both of those trial period lenses, and would have no problems buying one of my own should that be the advice, but I really want to know whether there is something better out there that would suit my circumstances.

I am based out in Korea at the moment so also have access to the decent camera markets in Seoul where I can barter for better prices, but when it comes to actually making a decision on what I want I am struggling.

I suppose what I am looking for is a lens that will basically be an all purpose lens that combines flexibility in range with excellent quality, so I can get the most out of my time traveling without having to lug around a number of different lenses with me. Is there such a lens? Am I too hopeful with this? Or should I really concentrate on one or the other?

My price range is between $200 to $400.

    Regards

    Thomas

The Nikon 18-200mm is probably the best all round lens for you , but outside you budget

were you are going to has some amazing vistas, so I would go for something wide
If you can stretch you budget, the Tokina 11-16mm f 2.8
If you must keep to your budget, the Sigma 10-20

    Nikon 55-300

good prices right in the middle of your price range.

Nikon lens and would be fully compatable with your camera, light, small, good price and with your 18-55 you have the range covered all the way from 18mm to 300mm or up to 450mm if you figure in the crop factor.

left over funds will get you a nice Kata 3 n 1 20, pick up a lens pen and blower and you are fixed for travelling.

Thanks for the good advice guys, really appreciate it. I have been keen on the 55-300mm so will look into that when I go up to Seoul this weekend.
