The Pentax Q has a very small sensor, just like the smallest p&s's. I can't imagine how it could have close to the IQ of the micro 4/3's cameras. Nikon's new cameras should be close though. The Q is also very expensive!

The sensor in the Pentax Q is not as small as the smallest point and shoots, it is bigger than the ones found in most advanced compacts (G12, P7100, S95 etc).
Tao and NSX, the DX system has only been around for what? 12 years? It's still a growing system. And like I said before, it's not an independent system, it shares the mount with FX. Nikon has to keep a balance between the two lens systems otherwise they could cannibalize each other. As for the primes, I don't know if the general DX customer base is so prime oriented. I know there are lots of DX users who prefer and probably only carry primes but zoom users probably outnumber them. I, myself, shoot with both btw.
Really though, Nikon gives the best support for DX I've seen from any of the major camera companies. Aside from the points I mentioned in my previous posts, Nikon doesn't force you to forgo your existing DX glass if you ever upgrade to an FX system. I see the points you guys are trying to make but at the same time I really don't know what more you want from Nikon. Remember that Nikon is a for-profit company so it's ultimate goal is not to please it's customers but to appeal to them to open up their wallets and spend their hard earned (or not) cash.
Anywho, I think I'm digressing way too much from the main topic which is CX so this will be my last post about this aspect of the DX system in this thread. I suppose that we're just looking at the same coin from different angles here and in the end there are no distinct correct answer.
Btw, about the Pentax, I was actually asking about it because it's performance and reception could be (in a small way) an indication as to how the CX system will do. I'm not really interested in it, although if it was cheaper I "might" have considered it someday as it's sorta too cute too pass up... but it's WAAAAY too overpriced in my opinion.
PB, I might be mistaken or reading the numbers wrong but don't compacts like S100 and G12 have a 1/1.7" sensor and the Q has 1/2.3" sensor?
Long live full frame!!! :^)
oh and here is something from the main blog to show my CX spirit :D
Why? Because it will keep you coming and coming and coming and...... XD
Awww, they're cute little guys. I'm interested in seeing the image quality and the AF performance. I'm not seeing the price, either. Is it what the rumored price is?
Price is $650 for J1 + 10-30mm kit and $900 for V1 + same kit....
I agree, colors were better than I anticipated (except for red) and some specs are nice too. Lenses seem smaller than m4/3 but not as small as I wished they would be, still acceptable though. However for that price I think I will wait a year or two or five... eh
Colors in purist white, emo black, saddist red, lolita pink and f***ing silver... the secret of the I am coming/s campaign finally revealed XD
Seriously what's your favorite color? I'm torn between black and white.
Comparison with Sony mirrorless:

....btw is it just me or do the cameras have an "iPhone" vibe to them?.. not just talking about looks either.
I can see inside a guys nose. Nothing above ISO 800. Video looks fairly good as well.
For those who really want it you may really like it.
I like the photo of it attached to 24-70mm f/2.8 - looks like a bazooka.
Angle of view on the 10mm is 77° = about 30mm FX. (35mm=62° | 28mm=74°)
Others on the main blog have mentioned that the I am coming/s website still has the counter ticking on it. So this is either an error (doubt it) or there is another thing coming in 11 hours, 13 minutes and 35 seconds.
Full frame F1! Oh wait, they already made that...
Nikon is hoping this 1 series system becomes a hit with amateur film makers like the canon 5Dmk2 did for the pro market. However as a compact stills camera, I think there are just too many other options with better image quality and price. Nikon thinks their fast hybrid auto focus will win people over but I don't think it'll be enough.
Nikon is even planning to release a projector attachment for these cameras! That might sway me, lol.
On the bright side Nikon's next "D"cameras are going to be AMAZING! You heard it from me first ;^)
too expensive comparing to this what we have already on the market.
Cool that it uses the same EN-EL15 battery, but surprising that it gets 1/3 the battery life. @_@
There's a Leica X1/M9 look to it, especially with the gently curved edges. But then I would assume that the viewfinder breaks the lines in an ugly fashion.
Not my cup of tea, as I could get a wide zoom or a 70-300 VR for the same price.
Been reviewing the sample images for the J1 on the Nikon web site.
They are all JPG files (between 3 and 5-ish Mb) and appear to my eyes anyway to be a little bit obviously well, how can I say it... not really good enough to be called "good" for a camera and kit lens combo at these prices.
I'm not talking about composition etc, but things like the amount of fine detail, which are visibly lacking. A good example is on the desert shot and I zoomed in on the bit of wood in the tire tracks.
Quite apart from the "flatness" of the image (the histogram reveals it all peaks in the mid tones with nothing to the left) isn't this a classic how not to rely on auto exposure thing(?), but I'll ignore that for now, if you pixel peek, at 1:1 while it's just beginning to visibly degrade (was this shot at a little over 5MP?) going in further to 1:2, OUCH! NASTY....
Even my old D3000 doesn't get that jaggy until 1:3. Ok, so I always shoot at 10MP with it, but aren't these shots supposed to be the best this camera can do... they are the sample shots after all?
Perhaps I am just more critical than the average buyer of fashion baubles, but on this showing and at this price, this is not a decent camera...
Well, at least no one that's been following the rumors is going to be disappointed. Everything has been pretty much spot on, starting with the 17mm imaging circle on the lens patents. Well done, Admin—you saved me waiting for this system so that I could have a lovely year+ getting and using the Sony NEX system.
One thing I'm wondering about is if the claim of the fastest shutter lag time could really be true. The lag on my NEX 5N is 0.02s. Did they really beat that?! I'm too lazy to hunt through the specs again. EDIT: they must have been talking shutter speed not shutter lag.
I think stylistically it's not a good idea. How much cooler would it be if it looked like a Nikon SP rangefinder? The large lenses would make it look odd, but still, it'd be really cool, especially with the old black enamel Nikon squiggly logo on it.
In that sense I think the Pentax Q is stylistically a better looking camera and it would be along the lines of a Fuji.
At upwards of $600, I'd so much rather go for a Fuji X10 and save many a pretty penny.

+1 (or more).
A missed opportunity, unless... Wait! Lets start a new rumor.. Is that what the D4 will look like? ;-)
I'm also in the boat of wanting the Fuji X10, but I want that to use as sort of a stand-in for a midrange zoom while hiking... have a telephoto zoom or wide zoom or fast prime on my D7000, and have the X10 quick at hand too for fleeting opportunities.
Also, I second what someone above said about the promise the technology in this new Nikon gives to the future offerings everyone is demanding.
Also, I'm now frustrated that I have to become fluent in the M4/3s market and read up on what they all do so I can say things without glossing over something / otherwise sounding like a fool. (Even though I am one)
