Here is a rumor (more like gossip) that I picked up yesterday evening.
As you all know, I do some work for my uni on a part time basis, taking event photos and have had some success getting published online and in print by them in magazines. There are actually three of us doing this - two of us part-timers and one full timer, who is the "staff photographer" for the institution. We use uni owned gear as well as our own, where we need to. We gather a couple of nights a week for a drink and to plan our assignments for the next few days/weeks.
Well, last night we were talking and discussing the sad state of the uni owned cameras. We are down to the last 2 D3 bodies (held together with Duct tape and glue) and have a couple of D700's owned by them we can use, as well as a nice selection of lenses - also getting on now. We also use our own bodies, which now is all D7000 with associated DX glass.
The full time staff photographer was saying that he was told Nikon are going to REPLACE all dSLR bodies lower than D7000 with the new EVIL body and NOT bring out any new low-end SLR designs. Next year he projected a new semi-pro line, based on an upgraded D7000 body.
"How does he know this and who from?" I asked. All I got was a wink.
Maybe it was the beer talking, but I thought I should pass this on and see if anyone else has any input (apart from wait for the D4 that is)......
The more I think about it (and this is the bad part of all this), the more it makes sense!
