D3s with crop sensor? Will it happen?

Can I firstly say that I'm a long time viewer of NR but this is my first post.

I'm a motorsport photographer and use...
D3s
D300s (gets very little use)
D2x (Just in case)
300mm F2.8 VR MKI
70-200mm VR MKII
24-70mm F2.8
1.4x MKII
2x MKIII

I LOVE sooooo much the build and handling of the D3s (and D2x) over the D300s however I'm always cropping down images even when using the 1.4x. Do you think Nikon will introduce a "crop" sensor Pro body or will their new D4 be full frame with a much higher pixel count?

wouldn't the magnification effect of the cropped sensor just make you crop your images more?

Or am I missing something?

*edit - never mind what I said, obviously more magnification equals less image cropping....hadn't had my coffee yet

It would be interesting to see a crop DX sensor in a full grip body again. Nikon hasn't donw this in awhile, but I doubt it will ever happen due to the fact that FX sensors should get a lot more Megapixels in this next go around(D4). This means that you'll be able to run the FX sensor in DX crop mode and get a decently large MP image. This would give you the best of both worlds. Because of this, the DX sensor in a full grip body will probably never happen again.

Why not just use your D300s with the grip? It is almost exactly the same size as the D3s. It is not a D3s brick build but it is solid and can take a real beating.

We have had rumors that the next "D300" would have a built-in vertical grip and a better build. We've talked about this before. Very few seem interested in a new "D2X" so I doubt it will happen.

What's the difference between a D300 successor with a built in grip and a D2x?

It'll probably at least match it in frame rate and beat it in resolution, and if it has a built in grip it'll be built like a tank anyway.

At the risk of having the exact same discussion again...

The difference would be the price. No one seems to want to pay $2499+/- for a D300 successor built like a D2X when it would be competing with a new full frame D800 or used D700 market. A new "D2X" wouldn't have many buyers if it retailed at over $5000.
