I will be going to New York for the first time and i've been checking out the weather and it seems like it will be raining. Do you think my camera and lens will be okay? I have the Nikon D7000 and have couple lenses. I will be carrying all my gear in my Think Tank Streetwalker unless i buy the Retrospective 30 before i leave. But i just wanted to make i'll be able to use my camera while i am in NY.

Just take a garbage bag and a Sham-wow and you will be good.

No, no, no, your D7000 and your couple of lenses will definitely not be okay in NY.
There is an anti-photography law in New York and if anyone sees you with your D7000 taking pictures they will report you to the authorities. They will kick-in your motel room door in the middle of the night and confiscate your camera gear.Don't do it! You should send me your camera instead. You're D7000 will be in much much better hands with me.

How about a "Handsfree Umbrella" like the one from EuroSchirm ( model : "Euroschirm Swing Handsfree Trekking" ) or Nubrella ? :-)
(Google those to find their websites ... )

How about you drop it off at my house for some long term testing?
I need to be extremely thorough.

You might also want to consider larger sized zip lock bags. I used them from time to time and they work great especially for just basic street walking around. As long as your not in the field where mud etc can be an issue the zip locks bags work well. Just be careful that when zipped up condensation can be a killer so dehumidify the bags and let your gear breath from time to time like when you stop for a bite to eat or at the end of the day in your hotel room. I throw in some silica gel packets as well to prevent mold and fungus.
By the way, you should check out the B&H store in NY or shall I say camera heaven. It would be cool to see the store I think because of the hard to find items being right at your finger tips. Such as a Lee SW-150 filter holder for a 14-24 lens or a Singh Ray Vari ND filter for example. Yes I know I have hated on B&H numerous times on the forum in the past...

...it seems like it will be raining. Do you think my camera and lens will be okay?Sounds like you have great weather and a lot of fake shrubbery where you come from. Do tell!
You aren't going to find a whole lot of shelter to walk under in NYC. There are only so many scaffolds and you don't want to spend all your time under them. The same rules apply in NY as apply elsewhere outdoors :)
Also, check how your rain cover works with your Streetwalker. Altough TT is the shizzle when it comes to bag functionality , I don't trust my rain covers to provide all encompassing protection.
I was once running through Paris in the rain with my gear bag inside a big, double-knotted, plastic garbage bag, BTW. Felt like a tool, but it worked really well.

I assume you mean New York City. You won't have any problems with rain. There's plenty of building awnings you can get under, and especially if you're in Times Square you can get some great pics of thousands of lights reflecting off the wet street and sidewalks.
You can also stop in either B&H Photo on 34th and 9th Ave or Adorama camera on 18th st near 6th Ave and get yourself some rain covers for you camera so you can shoot anywhere in the rain without worries, and while you're there you can probably empty your wallet out at realizing you're a kid in a candy store.
