i know both are different systems. but under good light would both perform well against each other or would the dslr way focus faster
Focus speed D3100 vs X100(4 posts) (4 voices)
While the X100 is a really cool little camera(that I would love to have), I think the D3100 would focus faster, depending on the AF-S lens used. Remember, the D3100 does not have an internal focus motor, so it can only auto-focus with AF-S lenses. The pro AF-S lenses focus much faster than the kit lens.
I own the X100 - D3100 would be faster. Only noticeable side by side though.

They are very, very different systems and really can't be compared against each other. Depending on what you are shooting it may or may not matter. I wrote up a review where I dive into details for PR if you want to take a look at it.
