Hello all,
Firstly I did search for this, wasn't able to find an answer.
I recently acquired a new Macbook Pro 13inch (love it) and also have a PC desktop (iwn7 x64).
I shoot raw and mainly use Lr, so my question is how would I sync the two computers so they have the same photo collections.
Like if i modify a file on my desktop, it will show up on my laptop, and the same other way around similar to a dropbox.
I would prefer not to c/p, to easy to miss something, so any app that can do this?
Any suggestions.
Thanks.

@Kk32: As far I know, Dropbox also works with Mac, looking on their site, they provide also an installer for Mac. (I work on a PC).
The only limitation you have is that you need to work on a specific group of folders, due that with Dropbox (if you have the free account) you are limited to a specific volume.
I use Dropbox to sync across the internet, and a tool called Karen's Replicator to sync between my PCs. (Google for "Karen's Power Tools", I'm not sure it Mac is supported there, but it is a neat free tool that works!).
Have a nice weekend.

Yeah i do use dropbox, however my totally photo collection is over 50gb.
And with a free dropbox i only have 10gb.
Also I do not need the server backup, i am pretty much looking for drop-box on a LAN or usb or something similar.
Also it appears Karen's Replicator does not work on mac sigh.Posted 2 years ago # -
I think Thom Hogan has a diy on his site for this. What I do know is that it would probably have to include an external hard drive (with ethernet)attached to your network.
The sharing the catalog will be the tricky part. I'm sure Adobe has an article about doing this somewhere in their support.

1) using tools used for backup like Acronis,
2) Use shared folders on the PC (I guess that you can also share from MAC)
3) Use a NAS Box on your LAN.I have a NAS (Network Area Storage) box connected to my LAN, mainly used as backup, but when I want to edit something across few computers on my LAN, I just work on a shared folder there... if I want to work across the Internet (e.g. on a folder at home and at work I use Dropbox.
The NAS box is just a hard-disk connected to the LAN, that has RAID capabilities and it is accesible from all my computers at home.

Lightroom will be the issue since you have to share the catalog. The catalog would have to reside on the NAS drive and I don't think you would be able to have LR open on both computers at the same time.
It easily could be a lot more complex than one would think since LR actually stores your edits in a reference file.

2 things to remember
with LR the catalogue is separate from photos and must be on the main drive of BOTH computers
So you will need to duplicate both the photos and the catalog then sync the two. I have not found a way to do this other than C&P
also Laptops tend to have limited hard drive space, so if you shoot RAW at some time you are likely to run out of space
Do you need ALL you photos on both computers? one solution, is to export your "keepers" from the desk top, as jpegs, into dropbox and just keep jpeg of the "keepers " on the lap top. If you're travelling and have downloaded RAW files on to the laptop, you will have C&P when you get home then export the "keepers" back to the lap top
Sorry does not really answer you question, hopefully someone will post a neat way of syncing

Victoria Bampton, aka “The Lightroom Queen,” has a very good book Adobe Lightroom 3 - The Missing FAQ

Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
I am rethinking about how to deal with this atm.
