    Hi,

I have been using my D7000 and 18-200mm VR II for almost 3 months. Mostly I use the viewfinder when taking photo. But I also want to use the Live view to take picture here and there too.

The problem I have in the Live view mode is that the focus seems to be much slower than in the viewfinder. But I guess that's normal.

The major problem that I find it very annoying and hopelessly useless is that once the camera focuses, and I press down the shutter, it takes almost a second to take a photo. The sound I hear is like something inside the camera is "slooowly" moving/sliding. Then, the monitor goes dark for a second before showing an image.

This occurs virtually in every mode (M, P, A, auto without flash), every ISO setting, and every shutter-speed range (I try from 30 to 1/8000)

But when I switch to the continuous (L/H) mode, the camera can take photo kinda quickly (but may be not up to 6 per second) while the screen goes totally dark during the shutter pressing.

I'm not sure if this is normal for D7000 or any DSLRs. I came from the point-and-shoot world.

And I apologize for not using proper photography terms as I don't really know how to explain this incident.

Are there any videos that show how D7000 is supposed to perform (in terms of shutter speed and sound in Live view mode) I could refer to? I tried to search on google and youtube. Nothing really came out.

Thank you very much. I'd appreciate your help!!

What you are seeing is totally normal for a DSLR. Liveview AF is slow, shutter lag is terrible, and should not be used for action shooting whatsoever.

Liveview focus is slow and so is the shutter delay. There is nothing wrong with your camera. Read up on the differences between contrast detect and phased auto focus and you will understand why there is such a drastic difference.
