Elvis - Are those stamen? What did you use and the data? What was your method for de-saturation?
The shot is of the intersection of three branches of some crazy, flat-needled conifer, taken at 2 p.m. in the afternoon in direct sun with a D700 and the Nikkor Micro 105mm 2.8 VR2 handheld. Further details: 1/640 @ f/5.6, ISO 200.
Desaturation process was carried out in Lightroom 3, using the black and white base conversion (no special effects presets), and tweaked color levels. I used five brushes, all modified default brushes to adjust clarity (to define), sharpness (to sharpen) and dodge and burn, with a couple of stacked dodge applications in the corners. Lens profile correction is on, and the image is calibrated to a 'camera standard' profile. I also bumped white balance from 4500 to 5500, which seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I prefer the original.
All of this is practice for manipulating skies, in anticipation of my trip to the east coast in a couple of weeks.
For the record, I trim the exif data to reduce image size for posting on my blog to speed up downloads, and not to be secretive. Anytime you have a question about anything I post, shoot! I'm happy to answer (with a book ;)

Hi Elvis,
Thanks for the info! I do appreciate it!

I export my via Phothshop's 'export for web' which also strips the data, too, so I don't even look. I'm open to sharing my data, too, which I try to do.
Of course, the exciting information in your photo wouldn't have been in the EXIF, and I do appreciate you sharing.
My best,
Mike

Sorry about the messed up link on the last one guys...thanks Pierre and Mike...I'm starting to get a little intimidated adding my piddly macros beside all of the quality shots here!

A good macro is very hard to get (especially with a FF, DOF too narrow) and yours are beautiful shutterdancer.
Nice one kaosa, kanuck, smartchild.
Yes, the Venetian picture was D700, pretty amazing right in the middle of a desert, I guess part of the missing Hoover Dam water is there.

D700, N24-70mm F2.8 @48mm, f/8, 1/125", ISO 200.
There was many light-sources, mainly reflections from windows on this one.Posted 2 years ago # -

I enjoy the simplicity of zero(ing) on a subject without all the worries of lighting and composition.

Wheelman Interesting shot! What is the data?
Thanks Mike! I have not seen a picture of yours posted here that has not been amazing. That was shot at a old Spanish mission, just outside of San Antonio, TX. It was very overcast that day, which is why I chose to convert to B&W. I really like how the various colors in the rocks translated into the B&W as well. I have a few interesting shots from that day, I am sure more will pop up here later. Shot on my D7000, 18-105mm VR, 18mm @F9, 1/125 ISO 320. Converted to B&W with Silver Efex Pro 2. I'll be better about putting more info on my posts from now on.
Extremely jealous of all macro shots on here, the Nikkor 105 f2.8 (or something similar) will def be the next purchase.

D7000, 35mm 1.8G @ f/3.2, 1/125 ISO 100. Shot at a huge weekend craft festival in a Texas hill country town. Thought this to be an interesting portrait. :-)

Thanks jonny and pierre. Another great portrait, jonny. You seem to have fairly agreeable children, at least in front of the camera, which is rare. :]
