Came across the work of Jamie Beck, photograph and I though it would be of intrest to the members of the forum
ms beck is doing work with still photographs where there is something in the picture that moves by way of gif techonology.
I think it is facinating.

I wonder how exactly this is done. I know of animated GIF files, but the way this is done.....it's different and really stunning.
I'm tempted to echo the comment in the opposing views blog and suggest that you may not be too sure about how to do this in Photoshop...
On previous versions of Photoshop, there was a tool called ImageReady, that allowed you to create animated GIF images.
ImageReady was available for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms from 1998 to 2007, after which it was discontinued.
What is interesting is that the image contained details that are hard to preproduce with a GIF image due to its format.
So does anyone know where info is how to do it? I see a Halloween project for this year.

I just tried it in CS5. Turn on Window-> Animation. Create adjustment layers for the effect you want. Save for Web and Devices and set the animation loop options at the bottom of the dialog box.
I did a very simple test. The photo had a crystal bottle in the background. I just did an adjustment layer for hue/saturation to turn the highlights green and blue at one second intervals. I got a warning with the large jpeg at full size that the image was too large for the inteded purpose (or something like that). I reduce the size of the image to 1000px x 600px. I have 8GB ram and saved in about 20 seconds. But it worked.

I like the idea of using it on the wall in an exhibition that is in the OP's blog link.
Perhaps as an attention grabber at the entrance or something, but not as a work on sale or anything :)

Agreed, used sparingly, I don't see why it couldn't adorn web pages or projected large as an advertisement.
But as something widespread, no.
The process is simple but very tedious and time consuming. Basically, you want your model to be as still as possible and take a video of the "action". Then you import that video to photoshop using "Video Frames to Layers" function.
Now you want to align all the layers to eliminate model's movement and possibly camera shake. After that is done, you just go through the whole bunch of layers and pick out the layer that has the best quality and expression. This layer will be THE static image in the final product.
Finally, you just photoshop in the moving parts from the other layers onto the previous above picked layer. The more frame your do, the smoother the animation :) Again, very time consuming but rewarded result.
