Let's look at reality:
1) If Nikon can retain all their skilled people,
2) If the factory is undamaged, and
3) If suppliers can continue supplying in pre-event quantities,
None of it matters. The factories are only getting 4 hours of electricity a day. For the foreseeable future, product will be dribbling out. And, BTW, we know assumptions 2 and 3 are incorrect.
So, I would be less concerned about rumors about new products. I would be more concerned with getting your hands on equipment that has not already been shipped from Japan.
Even the lowly Coolpix cameras have parts manufactured in Japan. Rumor is that Nikon is worried about supplies for Christmas.
Nikon is more worried about getting their company back to what the new 'normal' will be, than developing new products. Don't be surprised if we are still feeling the effects of the tsunami four years from now.
