I have a D7K, a Mac and an iPad. I also have iMovie and Final Cut Express. When I load the .MOV file from my SD card to the iPad via the little connector, it shows a thumbnail of the movie, but will not play it on my iPad. I tried a simple save as quicktime in FCE to no avail and have tried multiple methods and it says no photos to import after I try to do any type of conversion in FCE and reinsert the card back into my iPad.
Has anyone done this or know how to?
I have a MobileMe account, but I wanted to take the videos and load them directly onto my ipad. I'll try the method you suggested and see if it works...putting the movies in itunes and syncing them will not load them onto the iPad. It says the format won't play. I tried H264, MP4, Quicktime, iPhone, iPod, Apple Intermediate....none would load onto the iPad directly.

So, that works - thank you. I suppose I should shrink the file though. The 36 second clip I tested is 138 MB so it jumps and won't play continuously. I'd really like to know what the iPad can play this when it is off the device, but not when it is on it. That's more than a little frustrating.
Not sure why the mp4 has not worked for you... I have the d7000, ipads, macs, etc, etc.. and all works for me no prob- Done several time lapse clips using the intervalometer, processed in quicktime and imovie and put on the iPad no prob.... I think your issue may be with how you are importing them into iTunes to later sync. Try adding them in iTunes by selecting the "movie" playlist on the left side of iTunes, then select file -> add to library (command o) then select the mp4 file from what ever directory you have saved it in...
As for taking a movie strait from the d7000n card using the card reading dangle from the iPad... havent tried this- but make sure your iPad is on the latest version... but fact of the matter may be you just may need to compress it first.

While downloading pictures via the camera connection kit works well, the same is not as successful with videos. I find it much better to download the video clip to your computer, then sync via iTunes to your iPad. The video clip will then appear in the Video app on your iPad (assuming you are now running at least iOS5 or higher).
