I like the picture ... perhaps the backdrop is too urban for me but then again I'm used to such birds being in the wilderness. I don't think we have such small spieces of Heron here or is this a youngster? Ours look like these: http://www.looduspilt.ee/?page=vaata&otsisona=haigur
Well ... a new day started 6 minutes ago here :D
The big version of this 10 piece panorama went to the printer's today to emerge as a 160x50 print on canvas. Can't wait to put it on my bedroom wall that was screaming for a BW print :)))

fraew, awesome colors.
Great image monty11. I'm sure the ladies will love it when they visit ;)
mb, what river is that?
Gentoo, I've got a bird pic I want you to help ID but I'll post it on your bird ID thread.
http://nikonrumors.com/forum/topic.php?id=331Connor, your making me want to go buy a 50mm for myself!
drkbl, I could use a boat ride like that today.

nice pics fraew. Love the last one.
My first strobist style pics. They aren't all that good but for the first shoot I think it's pretty good.

mb: nice wide shot. Perhaps the sunlight is a bit harsh, meaning bright and would likely be better in the morning or later afternoon. Nice either way though.
fraew: I like the colors in the second one a lot!
monty: some of the best birding is in urban areas. Herons (which include egrets) come in many sizes and I am willing to bet that you have this species shown in your area. Here are some different species, most of these are when I was starting out and experimenting so bare with the quality here:

Here's a photo of robin I took a couple months ago used in my recent Nikon 300mm f/4.5 ED IF AIS review.

Here's my avian contribution
Great Horned Owl
Thanks for the ID help Gentoo!
Hey tai, is your picture of a one legged robin?
Poster it looks like your model was having fun:)
Posted 3 years ago # -
Nope, it had 2 legs and was just holding one up.

Nope, it had 2 legs and was just holding one up.
This is something all birds frequently do. When it's cold, they may be trying to keep it warm. In most cases, they're simply resting it. Many birds don't like to sit so they rest one leg at a time. Flamingos are best known for this as their legs are so long that sitting then getting up would render them vulnerable. Sometimes with some species, they may even hop around on one for a while then switch to the other, sandpipers do this.

I took this photo of what I now know (thanks to gentoo) is a Black Crowned Night Heron this morning in preparation for my Reflex-Nikkor C 500mm f/8 review.

Great shots everyone; I believe I could fly …
I wonder does a bee count as an avian, never heard of bee flue though.

More from my excursion yesterday, here's a duckling. This one I haven't posted in a blog entry, I may or may not end up putting it in the review. There have been more photos added since yesterday

Sticking with gulls.
Ring-Billed Gull (flying) and Western Gull (standing)

I like how this came out. Despite the appearance here, the flying Ring Bill was actually a bit further away than the Western. Ring-Billed is also about 40-50% smaller than Western.Posted 3 years ago #
