What would you do if you were in my situation.
Im looking to buy a DSLR, mostly for filming, or well... Only for filming.
    Should I wait for the D5100 or should I get a D7000?
    I can get a D7000 from a friend for roughly 1110$.

Will the D5100 be worth the wait? And can anyone estimate the cost of what a D5100 will be? Will it be cheaper than "my" D7000 deal?

Do you think the earthquake is going to delay the release of the D5100?

    THANKS,
    Fredrik

I doubt the D5100 will be priced higher then $999. It will probably go on sale for $899. Your D7000 deal isn't that impressive if you ask me. You can get a brand new D7000 kit for around $1299 now. Nikon's low-end cameras are made in Thailand so there shouldn't be any delay. Nikon will probably just push back the D5100 announcement because of the Japanese disaster but production in Thailand shouldn't be effected too much if at all.

I think the announcement will definitely be delayed. A big part of their market is japan itself and the marketing will need to be revised for the release there. although production will be unlikely to be effected physically but I think the company as a whole will be taking stock and direction from Japan and so I think delay will be inevitable I think Nikon is too conservative a company for it to happen any other way..

Well Toyota is restarting some of it's plants in Japan today. I don't think Nikon's other plants outside of Japan ever stopped so they should be on schedule. The only thing that will change is that there probably won't be the usual two or three month delay between an announcement and deliveries. Nikon will probably just make an announcement when the camera is actually shipping.

Their new compact lens camera will most likely be delayed or pushed back indefinitely since, as a pro model, it will be made in Sendai, Japan. If they had already started production on their new compact pro camera and they might have to scrap those cameras and start over. Toyota is checking their new vehicles for radiation contamination which is unreal!
