   I had so many piled up over the last two years, that I just cleaned them out of my office, and stacked them all up in the hall. We live in Southern California, so we don't generally have attics or basements. I've never sold any of my Nikon gear, so I'm not exactly sure why I'm even keeping them. That said, I can't for the life of me, find any of my old Nikon SB-800 stuff, except for the flash itself. No box, no accessories, no nada.

   While cleaning my office last week, I did finally bring myself to throw out all those pretty B+W lens shade boxes.

   Mine are stacked to the ceiling on top of a filing cabinet. I don't see myself selling stuff either, but who knows...

   Small disclaimer: I don't own Nikon anything yet, so I'm not sure what kind of boxes they use. With that said, one thing you could do to conserve on space is to open the boxes at both ends (if they're those kinda boxes) and collapse them to save space. You could then stick them in one of those document boxes, or maybe even a filing cabinet... that way, if you decide to sell something later, you still have the original boxes.

   I didn't start hanging onto the boxes until a couple of years ago. Now have a bunch stored in a store room downstairs. I don't sell gear either, but like was said, you never know.

   Indeed, that's what I did with mine. Granted then I threw them out. Now I only have one box from the d7000.

   Whenever I sell stuff, most people don't really give a crap about boxes. Maybe the manuals, if they are older and they don't know how to get them off the net.

   If a person is genuinely interested in buying your equipment, you not having a box shouldn't deter them. So just toss them and save some space.

    I keep them in case I ever need to sell things.

    Right now I am content with my D7000 but if down the line the D9000 rocks my world I might want to buy it and the original box adds to value because most people who have the original box are the original owners.

    Also if you never sell the item, people who do want to sell the item will buy the box off your hands.

    I pretty much have kept every box unless I already sold the equipment that was in it or things I bought used like my F5 that didn't come with one. I now have a pile in my attic. I admit most people won't care about a box but have seen the bidding wars on ebay and for what ever reason behind it the box must make that lens (or gear in question) function that much better...my 2cents.

    if you are likely to want to sell your stuff on e bay, having the box can make a difference to the price

    but if you do not want to keep then, you can even sell empty boxes on e bay !!!

    I keep the boxes because it is easier to take them in for service that way. I've only had to take one in, but the Nikon service guys said it was easier to work with the original box than some other one because they know what goes where. Then again I take my lenses right into the depot, not by mail, so maybe that is the difference.

    I have them stacked under my desk. My wife complains about them all the time...I should probably throw them in the attic if I want to keep them. I have sold a couple of Nikon things and I don't think it matters that much really. Some people might feel better buying something that has the box because at least it doesn't look like you just stole it from someones camera bag or something. Some might not care if they get a decent price.

    I keep my boxes tucked under the office desk to help my wife lose track of how much Nikon stuff I'm actually accumulating. I've always been a box keeper for some reason - original xbox, wii, aftermarket car stereo, point-n-shoots, etc. It might be superficial but I think there is a psychological factor with some people when buying a preowned Nikon product (for example) and reading in the ad that it comes in the original box.

    have never kept them, have not sold any of my nikon equipment from the eighties, its nice to know that my old lenses can still be used on modern digital cameras, so they go out with the garbage.

    My gosh, what pack rats we are !! I've only ever sold one piece of camera equipment in the past 47 years, and I didn't have a box for it. However, I have pretty much every box and the contents for everything purchased since then - which I have wagged from Maryland, to Georgia, to four different residences in Louisiana. I have no intent to sell anything, but I just can't get myself to trash the boxes. BTW, anyone need a box for a Panagor 125mm lens from 1972?

    I definately qualify as a "box hoarder". My loft is full of them. I keep them for several reasons.
    1) I often don't use all the accessories that come in the box (batteries/chargers, leads, cases etc) so I keep them in the box with the instructions and receipt.
    2) In case I need to send something back for repair or refund.
    3) To box up if I ever come to sell.
    4) So people don't see what i've just bought when driving past my house, and seeing the boxes put out for the bin man. I don't want to get burgled by some one who saw the empty boxes. (there is a problem with this of course.......when I finally do get round to clearing them out, my neighbours will think I've won the lottery!

    I do save space where possible by puting small boxes inside big ones. I have all my Nikon boxes, they're just too nice to throw away, and they remind me of the excitement I felt when I first bought them home. :-)

    I keep my boxes. I sold one lens a few months ago, and my wife and I will be selling both of our D90s now that we've upgraded to D7000s. Always nice to pass on equipment in the original boxes.

    Yep, I keep my boxes as well. It's a good thing, because I ended up selling my old Sigma 18-200 and Nikon 50 1.4G recently. Made it much easier to pack. I don't know about most people, but if I was buying something used, if it comes with the box it makes it look like the owner cared more about the item.

    Keep them in a larger box labeled "Careful, Gold Inside." I should put a cinder block in there.

    I sell/buy stuff quite often and the box always gets me another $20-$50. Not sure why - never bothered asking while walking to the bank.

    They are useful if you sell or trade in your gear. I get a bit more for my gear on trade or selling at my local shops here in Korea. It makes it easier for the store to re-sell the product or re-ship it somewhere. I try to keep everything that goes for Nikon, Leica and Zeiss boxes. Once the D700 replacement comes out I will most likely be trading in a few things plus cash depending on how bad the price is :(
