From my expieriences in the Philippines I think all the shops are located in Manilla at least the ones worth your time. All you'd find in the smaller towns will be fuji film shops or maybe the odd point and shoot or olderer film bodies shops. Kind of reminds of my trips spent in Vietnam.
Hmm I think I'll be in Manila for a night, do you know of any shops near the airport?
I wanted to pack as light as possible since airport security is such a hassle. I figure I can pick one up there.
I'll be there for a month.
I'll either ship it back or at least have an easier time bringing it into the states than out.
There might be camera shop in the airport itself come to think of it. You know how those types of shops are though kind of expensive with little stock. They are bascially for emergency batteries and various adapters or converters. If I can remember right you want to hit Manilla's Hidalgo street in the Quiapo market district. They can be very cheap and there should be around a dozen shops or so. However, you mentioned you have just the one night....

Yeah I keep hearing about this place.
How it has super cheap prices. Did the conversion and they seem to be on par with normal prices here with the negative of being in a bad area by all accounts.
Also up there what I wanted to get was a tripod because I didn't want the hassle of trying to bring one with me.
Hrm, I maybe able to fly back to Manila at some point.
I'll be staying in some place called Amlan.
Any reason why you're buying gear there instead of bringing it there?
Hi. I'm from the Philippines. I don't remember any camera store in the airport. Most of the local photographers, like me, source our photo gears in Hidalgo St in Quiapo where one can find the photography shops bunched together. Pricing is similar (if not lower) to pricing of photo gears in HK. In the Makati Central Business District (CBD), which is near the airport, there are some photo shops in the mall areas. You can find Digital Walker Zoom in Greenbelt 5. They carry most brands of cameras & accessories. In Glorietta 5, there's Camera Haus & Henry's Camera (their main branch is in Hidalgo). Other malls have some photo shops & the botique stores of Nikon, Canon, Crumpler to name a few.
I haven't been to Dumaguete City (w/c is further south than Manila & requires a plane ride) so I cannot advise you as to photo shops in the area. Hope you have a fun & photo filled stay in my country. Regards.

Yeah. I'll look into it. All I know is after a 22 hour flight I'll arrive in Manila at 12PM, hopefully find a way to these camera stores, pick up a decent tripod and if I can manage find out if there is some helicopter tours. Always wanted to do one and always wanted to shoot from a helicopter.
Forget sleep, who needs it!
I'll be staying a month so gotta find interesting things to do.
By the way, krevlinggoodspeed how did you manage to get a whole month? Is it a exteneded vacation or assignment? Try not to get married while your there haha

My parents built a home there so we're visiting for a month. I've never been but this time my ticket was bought for me so...
Not too excited to be honest but apparently we're right on the beach so should make for some cool pictures.

im from Phils. too, in Bicol the place of Mt. Mayon Volcano... But im here in Doha, Qatar for my work here.
If you want a cheap price you can ho to Hidalgo St., Quiapo, Manila. But most of their products came from Hong Kong (and we called it a Grey Unit). Then if you want to buy in a Mall, Digital Walker Shop in GreenBelt 5 in Makati City just about 45 mins. from NAIA (Int'l Airport).
