I have had my 50 1.2 for a couple of months now. I bought it new through B&H and the focus was smooth as glass. I haven't shot with it for a week or two and it's been sitting on my desk.
All of a sudden the focus ring sounds like it's rubbing on paper.
Any thoughts?
Mine was never smooth, but then it's quite used and is the old Ai version: 7-blades, no CPU. I took it apart to clean away some dust from around the bearings and it started to move more easily, but considering the rock-sold build of this thing, I doubt that you can really do better than the stiff focus it has now.

Doesn't sound good. I would expect it to be a tad tight but not grinding or hesitant to move. I would contact B&H and see if you can return it or get it cla'd.
Mine sounds like it is rubbing on paper - a bit - but it moves well enough. If you are worried, though, B&H is a good idea. Mine is quite used (out of shop for a couple of decades), so I don't have that luxury.

The one I have is quite smooth, you should have it looked at.
