A couple of days ago I visited target and saw that the D5000 was marked down to about 540, which automatically sounded like a deal to me. But as I continue to read this site, I'm seeing talk of the D5100. Should I get the D5000 or wait until the D5100?
Should I continue to wait or?...(D5000 or D5100)

The 5200 will be out eventually.
Should you wait for that? Only you know.

Should be released pretty soon. Blog suggest end if march press event to release it. I'd say wait till then

well you could wait, but its just rumors, who knows.
and even though they announce it, another 5 months on the waitng list, the D7000 is now becomming easly available after being announced last year.
rumors about d800, d400, d4, d5xxx
you are in the right place...nikon rumors.
smaterchild suggest end of march, if you can wait, then do so, but remember that even though a camera is annouced form Nikon, that does not mean it will become available.
tough call.

If you have a camera already then I would say wait, its only 4 weeks and you will know.
If you don't have a camera and your budget won't allow the D7000 then thats a tough call. Truth is if you love photography and would use your camera a lot just buy it, as you will spend the next 10 years using it and all the pictures will be good. trade it in 12mths down the track when the 5100 is cheaper if you must. I would be spending most of my budget on glass not the sensor.
This is all of course a decision you must make, no one can do it for you.

According to the rumours, the D5100 upgrade isn't as radical as the D7000 so why wait? Buy the D5000 and another lens instead.

Either way it seems like a good deal on the D5000. There aren't going to be any good deals for a while on the D5100. As others said, if you already have a camera then it might not hurt to wait. You will pay the premium for the newly released body. If you don't have one...I like my D5000.

I think I would go for the D90 or save for a while longer and get the D7000.

Wait. All indications point to the D5100 being announced very soon.
