KFAQ (event sponsor) asked me to do the shoot and I was the only photographer invited and allowed behind the barrier at his book signing. I wasn't invited by the Huckabee camp but I was the official and only photographer for his visit to Tulsa.

The 18-105 lens did much better than I was expecting and I'm completely elated by its performance. I was equally pleased with my D90 handling the low light of the fluorescent lights bouncing off of the yellow/gold walls with its incredible white balance at such a high ISO.

I got a lot of good press with this shoot and looks like I'll be getting the Glenn Beck shoot in a couple of months, fingers crossed!

B&W HDR conversion of images I took a number of years ago with a D50 and 18-55 kit lens :) 3 image bracket edited with Photomatix Pro.

elvishefer that a real bonus to be able to get a nice shot like that because usually the windows are too dirty or a lot of condensation. It works well in B&W too! Tcole nice shot were you surprised or ready for this? Regualator nice work handheld at night looks good. Kaos cool ripples and nice subject matter! :)

I really like that shot kanuck, there is so much nice to see, the sail boats, the sunset, the crazy clearing in the cloud.

I give up. Pic's are sharp on my PC viewed full screen, then blurry at this 780x518 pixels size. Never had a problem before. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

I shot in .nef, HDR'd as 16-bit TIFF then exported as 780 pixel .jpg.

Thanks Pierre, I was considering turning the shot into a pano style shot with a more narrow focus placed on the subject matter by cropping out the beach and top of sky, but then it loses the sky opening at the top which gives it some more substance I think.

Nice butterfly shot, is that with a macro lens? I can't quite remember but I think you might have the 105mm VR no? It looks like you focused on the body not the wings maybe? Nice shot. Spraynpray, its coming out of photoshop right? Maybe its becoming a 8 bit possibly? Sounds like a conversion error between programs.

abhinav thats a wonderful shot I like the textures and the cloudy mist especially. Looks like Vietnam :)Jarski Mela wonderful contrast shown very nice indeed.

@Pierre - thanks. Shot that with the Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D which is very sharp. Had to refine my handholding technique. I think my photography has improved since following many of you on this site.
@Regulator75 - super clean handheld image! Proof you don't always need high ISO for sharp images at night.
@abhinav - your images are always astonishing!

D700, 105mm VR macro, F5.6, ISO 450, 1/30" Handheld. I am still learning that lens, the DOF being so narrow gives me some trouble. The blur might be partly due to some movements in the wing. Perhaps 1/125” and lower aperture would have been better, ISO was still low enough.

I was kind ready. I saw them while driving along a state road and pulled off on a drive. Of course by the time I was able to get a good angle, stop and get out they had run pretty far off and stopped to turn and look again. So shot was at 200 mm.

I really want the 300 f4 because I shoot lots of wildlife, but I need more funds too :(

The one boat turned the wrong way draws me in, kanuck.
Another great shot, abhinav. Beautiful color depth.
Nice treatment, DeathK. This is the beauty of shooting raw: not only do the converters improve with time, but so do the operators of the software. ;-)

Discharge from a static electricity generator. I wish I'd had a macro lens with a longer working distance. It was a bit disconcerting to see a couple of the arcs go through the lens to ground...but no harm done, thankfully.

Stunning Jonny, I love that the edge paths are slightly curved to follow the fields. Did you post-process other lighting out of the picture, or did you just have a lightless environment that you could shoot this in?

I had the same thing happen to me at a conference I went to in SF, elvis. I kept thinking, "where is my camera when I need it?"

Thanks, squamish and kaos. You'd think that I would look to see that the arcs follow the field lines but I didn't until you pointed it out, kaos. Very cool. And I had the lights turned off in my underground lair (a.k.a. department machine shop).
