I have the Nikon 70-200 VRII with the the Hoya HD UV filter.
I just purchased the Nikon 24-70mm lens. Now i am debating if i should get a UV Filter, Polarizer Filter or Clear filter?
I add the filters for protection and i do understand there are chances of lens flare with the UV filter but i havent seen it yet and would rather protect the front element.

Personally, I would get the clear Nikon or B+W filers. There a bit more expensive, but I *think* they are worth it.

My experience with with the Hoya HMC filters is pretty good- despite their low cost I haven't seen any impact on flare, ghosting or image resolution. Lenstip did a comparison with several dozen types of filters and this was one of the best.
Other alternatives are the Hoya HD filters, which are impact resistant, and the BW MRC filters, which repel water (like a car windshield) and so are easier to clean when they get wet.

I plan on getting the HD series if anything since that is the one that i have on my 70-200mm VRII.
Just wasnt sure if i should get another HD UV or just get 1 polarizer and switch between the UV for each lens but then i think about it and it seems like it will be a hassle.
I am not a filter person myself (I prefer to use a lens hood for protection instead), but when I do use filters, I tend to go for B+W. For digital, there is no need for the UV. The clear will be just fine. If you are using a filter for protection, then you probably don't want a Circular polarizer. You should really only put the polarizer on when you really need it.
