As most of you know I own a D90. Recently I took it into nikon to have it serviced (170,000ish actuation) they reinstalled the camera software. When I went to assign the function button to shoot Raw/Jpeg when pressed, the option wasn't there. When I called up the repair center the employees at Nikon insisted that the firmware was the same and the camera seemed to verify that.

Could this be related to the Distortion control data upgrade or have any you nikonians had similar firmware issues (on any body) where there was an unrecorded firmware change?

I've just gone out and bought a D90 with (for) my son last weekend as his first camera, and thought I'd check that he had the latest firmware installed. As far as I can see from the Nikon download page on their site, they haven't ever released an update? This seems incredible for a camera coming to the end of it's hayday. Have I missed something? A&B say version 1. What is the "distortion control data upgrade" I can see listed?

The D90 has no firmware update, which isn't surprising, there really isn't anything wrong it. Nothing stood out to me when I had one a few years ago anyway.

Ahh, OK, I did notice the "L" tab but wasn't sure if that related to firmware. I haven't noticed it on my other Nikon cameras before. Yes my sons new D90 does have that version. For the record, never having picked up a D90 before this week, I have to say I'm impressed. If it's such a nice little camera now, it must have been quite phenomenal on it's release! I'm very pleased he didn't go with the D3100.
