I have officially crossed over to the dark side. Canon can keep their plasticky goodness. Hello nikon. Who here has come over from canon?

Welcome all. More interesting though would be to know why you crossed over?

Biggest reason, ERGONOMICS. Plus the full frames are a beast, and nothing can beat the trinity zooms and primes, with exception to 70-200 is ii usm and possibly 85 1.2 for the canon. Otherwise Nikon is better. They seem more professional also.

welcome to the Nikon family guys

I came over from powershots. when i looked for an slr i thought the 7d looked great. but then i read reviews and saw many issues with it. so i looked further and many said they would rather have the d700 than the 5d of 7d. so i looked into that and thought it really looked good. i bought one and never regret it.
i liked the canon jog wheel on my sx10is and wish nikon had one of those. i also get confused whether i am over or under exposing as the meters are reversed from canon (well actually the sx10is meter is vertical which is very easy to understand).

Funny, I guess you could say I came over. My first SLR was a Canon AE-1 back in 1978. Then Canon decided to switch the mount and simultaneously quite making lenses for the older cameras. I have not, and never will, forgive them for that.

I technically did. My second camera was a t90 and I borrowed friends canon eos bodies until a few years ago when I picked up a nikon (and bought my first dslr). I never looked back.

Came from 2 Canons - EOS Rebel 2000 (which I still keep film in for occasional shots) and a Powershot Pro1 which I gave to my niece. I was initially intimidated by the Nikon brand 'cause I thought only professionals use them. Glad I switched.

Intersting my brother went from Nikon to Canon and became famous in his field almost right away nailing a nice newspaper job and a position in tourism and travel with his 5D Mark II. His work is beautiful I think. Its all in the skillz I think. Regardless, welcome to Nikon guys ^^

Welcome dyckim; I have switched from Canon too. My first DSLR was a Canon 400D which was a really nice camera (my mother has it now). Then I decided I wanted a prosumer camera and bought a Canon 50D - biggest mistake I ever made (well, in photography at least). Sharpness, colors, contrast, really horrible!
After I saw pictures of a friend's D700 I took my Canon gear to a store, sold it all and came home with a D700+50G. A difference between night and day! Never regretted it for a second, the only lens I miss sometimes is the 200mm f2.8L which was an awesome lens.
Nothing against Canon, but their 50D was a horrible camera, nice thing about it though is that it made me switch to a D700 :)Posted 2 years ago # -
Probably most of us had a Canon at one point or another. A more interesting question should ask who switched recently from Canon DSLR, in which case, I am disqualified.

I am proud to have a d700 +16-35 in my hand right now. Can't wait to see what Nikon has to offer on the d700 replacement & d4.

I SWITCHED just recently (1 month ago to be exact). Sold my 7d and 70-200 is ii usm>

My family has always been a Nikon family. My father bought a FM2, had 2 Nikon film point and shoots and eventually got a Nikon digital point and shoot, the E3700.
Then I got the D40, the 18-135, the 35mm 1.8 and the 105mm Micro.
I inherited a Canon Elan, however, because my cousin didn't want his film gear anymore. But otherwise, we're as Nikon as it gets. :D
Same thing with the Mamiya DSX1000, my uncle gave that to me.

Canon switched lens mounts on me so I had to start all over anyway. Although I never really gave up shooting with canon. I still shoot with 1Dmk3s, 7Ds, and 5Dmk2s...shhh nobody here is suppose to know though!

This seemed kind of odd to me too at first. But now it makes perfect sense... you'll notice that when you turn your lens' aperture ring, it moves the meter in the direction you're turning. Same with the command dials... in each case, the meter moves in the direction you turn the wheel. Same thing if you map your EV to the front wheel (a handy option, BTW)... After a while, it all feels natural.
But if you can't get used to it, check your manual... on my D7000 there's a menu option to reverse the meter, your D700 may have the same thing. And you can reverse the command dial direction too, so everything will match up.

That´s one reason why we have "holy" wars, greed is another.A person´s holy is unholy for another.
But you already knew that. :)

Umm no, Canon has white "L" lenses, while all Nikon lenses (other than some special odd ball limited production models) are all black! You are being negative. The truth is that your white is black. Develop your thoughts and become positive. Use the force if necessary.

Totally agree. You heard of the psychology test where they put 24 people in a room with no directive given to them, half with a blue suit and half with a red one. Within a couple of minutes, all form a tight group red with red and blue with bleu. An hour later, blue did not speak to red anymore. Then they switch the suit to half of the people and watched what happen. For a while some blue staid with their red friends but over time, the two distinctive groups formed again. The odd attempt to mix faded with time.
Changing your lenses from white to black has the side effect of changing the background color of your rumor forum (canonrumors vs nikonrumors).
