What do you guys think the next replacement of d700's price to be set at. I think it will be around 3299.99 and drop down to 2999.99. Give me some more thoughts on this...

I hope $2800-3000

My guess is $3,500 to start then a drop of maybe 3-500 after about a year.
Two reasons for the higher initial price. One, I think they will come up with a new sensor that provides higher MP, better ISO performance and adds video. This will likely require the next iteration of the Expeed processor all add to costs. Add to that the deprecation of the USD compared to the Yen is around 20% since the D700 came out and you will be paying much more for the next iteration.

I think the price point will be $2800. Why? When the D300S came out it was released at $1799, which I think was $100 cheaper than the D300. Also it dropped very quick to $1500 within 2 months.
Sure the D700 was $2999 body only, and now $2399, but it seems that Nikon is happy at that price point, but seeing at the price of the D7000, it is $200 more than the D90 when that was released, but trumps the D300S, so the price point is very competitive for what it offers.
D7000 $1199
D400 $1699
D700 $2799
D4 $5499Posted 2 years ago # -
I'm hoping for 2800-3000 but just to be prepared... I've reserved the idea that it may be 3500 and am ready to pay that much.
I think it may be +3000 because of the higher resolution, iso, video plus if they are putting 100% viewfinder in the D7000. They will do it with the D700 replacement. Also maybe a dual cf slot? I hope so.
LOL at Niko

If you figure that $3,500 times the 80% depreciated value of the US dollar compared to the Yen since the D700 came out is $2,800. I still think that $3,500 is going to be the price. Can't get around the economics of a stronger Yen.
If it came out at $2,800 that would be the equivalent of the D700 having come out at $2,240, which didn't happen.

if is is 3500$ it needs to be more than 16MP to sway me over a used D700.

I'm expecting at least $3000. That was the price of the D700 when it came out, and we can expect the price to be higher, due to currency fluctuations. If it comes out with a high res sensor (D700x), then it might be even higher, as Nikon will see it as a cheaper lower quality D3x.

You gotta note the d700 dropped its price within few months. I might wait one to three month to have others test out for bugs, etc... and when the price fluctuates a little, Hello FX>

Yes I am like smarterchild I am prepared to pay $3500 for this camera as well. I'd love to see it priced at $2800, but I don't think this will be the price initially. I believe the D700 was over $3000 when it came out was it not? I need it right now badly actually. Its getting to the point where I am counting the weeks soon it will be days!

Do we win something if we get the price right?

First of all, for a full frame, 16 million pixels are the perfect algorithm in terms of balance between image quality, noise control, etc... 24 above might be pushing things a little bit, sacrificing the noise control.

Reason why I say 16mp is=better noise control which will allow me to use 1 stop slower lens such as 16-35 f/4 vr in many situations. I can afford to lose that 1 stop b/c of the high noise control from these Fx cameras.

The term "algorithms" means that it is calculated. So please explain this "algorithm" of yours in a scientific fashion with data. Otherwise your "algorithm" is really just an opinion.

Wow, d700 price dropped again by 100$... do you think this is a sign for Nikon's release of d700 replacement in Photokina 2011 (March). And even the d700 instant rebate ends in March 26... What should I do? Get the d700 with rebate now or wait.........

When thinking about the price of new camera bodies we tend to just think about the features of the new body and sort of view it as a standalone cost. But that really isn't the case for a lot of us.
I happen to own Adobe CS5 Master. If CS6 comes out before the new D400/D800 is released, I might be pushed into a $1000 software upgrade. CS6 will probably be released around Sep/Oct 2011. Adobe's policy is not to provide patches for camera support to older versions.
So depending on the timming of the release, that $3000 body might cost me $4500.
