Fortunately my wife doesn't really notice my new acquisitions, that may not be the case however if I ever do buy a 400 2.8! :-)

Lol when they don't fit in the camera bag anymore they start to become noticeable? I don't think my wife would have noticed my 17-55 until I was showing her and held it up next to the 18-200 and she goes "gosh that one is big".
I'm looking for a macro lens perhaps a 105mm or something a little shorter so I can use for portraits as well.
Also looking for monopod for sports and a TC for my sigma 70-200mm and a small camera bag to take to smaller events and parties, so no need to lug the big camera bag.
I am waiting for the D400 or D7100 if there's no D400 or maybe D600 depending on what comes out and what specs are on each camera...looking to buy next year once the reviews come in and cameras tested...I'm hoping something announced this year and soon...
If I could only get back what it cost to renovate my 1978 T140E, I'd sell it and buy a D4 and holy trinity. <sigh>

A camera to replace my D90. Thinking D800E ... interested in what a D400 would be as I like the extra reach one gets from DX ... maaaaaaaaaaaaybe look at the D600 high ISO shots as I mostly shoot sports.
I thought I should join in on this as well.
I'm currently shooting with a D3000 and plan to do so until I've completed most of my kit. The next purchase will be a dedicated portrait lens and it's leaning toward the new 85mm f1.8. After that I'm getting a Singh-ray variable ND filter to enable me to shoot with flash in brighter conditions than would otherwise be possible. That will pretty much complete my core kit.
Next up is the big one, the camera upgrade. I was aiming for the D7000 (unless the replacement would offer some extreme improvements and not much price difference) but now Nikon decided to make things complicated with the rumored D600. I would love to go full frame but the old models have all been way out of my price range. If the D600 offers good specs and lands somewhere around 12000-15000 Swedish kronor I'll have to do some serious thinking. I would have to save a bit longer but I see all camera gear as long term investments. My next camera will be used at least for 5 years before ever considering any upgrades. I would have to replace my 35mm and 85mm macro lenses but I can do that pretty cheaply by selling those. All I need to add after that is a wide angle lens since the 14mm I'm using now is a bit too wide for most things.
Sorry for the lengthy post but this plan has been evolved and perfected over the last year and I've been slowly adding piece after piece. I'm hoping the camera upgrade can happen withing a year or 18 months. Next time I'm getting a cheaper hobby...

I was wondering when you were going to upgrade that D3000 ;) Really if you want an awesome macro/portrait lens get the 105 F2.8 and get rid of your 85.
Tell me about it, I feel I've outgrown the D3000 a long time ago but the rest of the kit is more important to me for now. While I would love to have the 105mm, it's a bit too expensive for me, at least for the next couple of years. If the D600 turns out to be the camera I'll upgrade to I'll probably replace the 85mm macro with the 60mm instead. This may seem counter intuitive but I actually wouldn't mind a shorter working distance for shooting bugs.

My suggestion, out of complete macro ignorance, is to obtain the body you decide upon, then see how the lenses you have perform with this body. A DX lens may actually perform well for certain situations, i.e., near square format on FX, and the only way to see what coverage you have is to try it. My only example is the 10.5mm, which I have found I prefer to the full frame 16mm on FX, as I grew up in the era of the round fisheye and the 10.5 is similar to this. Your photos are so nice, I might suggest waiting to see what the new DX (D400 if it actually gets here) has to offer, as the presumption is that a pro DX should offer more, for me at least, than an entry level FX, (D600).
msmoto, I guess shooting in crop mode is another way to do things as well, until I can finalize the lens line up. What you say about the D400 is certainly true as well so it will be very interesting to see what Nikon comes up with in the next 6 months or so. As I mentioned before I'm in no rush to get a new body since I have other things I want to get first. If the D600 is similarly specced to teh D7000 and within my price point, then I'll probably go for that though. There's just something about the FX look and feel that you can't quite get with DX. Still all we have are rumors though, I might have to change plans again.
I'll be buying the D400 when it comes out. I don't have anything else on my hot list that's currently available, or at least nothing that I can see forking over the cash for.
I'll be looking reaaaaalllly hard if any affordable super telephoto upgrades appear like the 300mm f/4, 80-400mm, or a new 400mm f/5.6.
I just saw an email that said a label has been made. I do beleive that Calumet has my AF-S DX NIKKOR 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED in stock. Can't wait!
Several folks mentioned the Nikkor 105mm. I purchased the AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED a couple of weeks back and I am very pleased with the lens. It is excellent for both macro and portrait efforts. One of the best lens I have aquired. I would recommend it to anyone who asked.
Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF AF is on it's way. WOO HOO UWA zoom zoom :-)

Good to hear that the 105mm 2.8 is not only a good macro lens but can double up as a good portrait lens...I'm looking to get better close up shots for weddings ie flowers, rings, even cakes...but it can serve dual purpose of portraits as well...
Hopefully Nikon brings to reality that new 80-400mm zoom. I hate pre-ordering but I will for that....and sell my Sigma 120-400.
@ Rifqi, you do a phenomenal job with your D3000. No pressure, but I'd love to see your work with a full frame camera.

You should save for it...especially since you like macro work so much. Maybe look for a used or refurbished one. The 60 might be a decent option though. It is nice to have the VR on the 105. Ha or you can do whatever you want with your budget ;)
