Hello Everyone,
How much on E-bay should I expect to pay for a Nikon 50mm f/1.8D
replacement lens for my D90? Further, is this a good lens for
general photography, and is it a good match for said camera?
Also, is it ok to use a LensPen on my lens? I'm a neophyte and
don't want to damage anything.
Thanks
How much (is the 50mm f1.8 lens worth)?

As ever, it depends on what you want to photograph
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D isone of Nikon's least expensive and sharpest lens It has very little distortion and is small and lightweightIf you have few more £££/$$$ as I would go for the 18-200mm

As far as cost goes, I'd say $100-150 for one in good condition (a new one goes for under $200). I find in general that it's one of my favorite lenses to photograph people (individuals and groups), but some people find it too long, others too wide- your experience will differ. I also use for macro shooting with some extension tubes. It's a very sharp lens, especially stopped down, and I'd say that it is one of Nikon's best, and not just for its price but for any lens.
I should also mention that for years I thought this was the most useless lens in my bag and I never used it until I forced myself to use it a few times for different things.
I never used a lens pen, so I can't comment. I just use the soft cloth I got for my glasses (sometimes my sleeve if I need to).

Thanks for the replies.
Now after I do some more reading, research, I am finding
that a Nikon AF-S DX f/1.8G lens would be a better lens for
what I plan on using it for, i.e., shots of my daughter,
beach shots, et al. Any comments on this? I don't mind
paying the extra money, I just want a good, fast lens to
use with the D90 instead of using the 18-105 1:3.5-5.6G the
camera came with.Posted 2 years ago # -
On the beach during the daytime there is so much light you'll likely be shooting at around f/8. The four lenses discussed so far will look identical at f/8.
How about you go though all your shots, put in one pile all the photos you wish you had owned a faster lens for, and then see if those photos more commonly use <=35mm or >=50mm?
I'll bet you nickles to NiCads the majority of your photos needing a faster lens will fall sharply on one side of the 42mm divide. If not? Get the 50 because it is cheaper!

Yes its about 75mm so an excellent portrait lens on DX format. The 35mm would give you a true 52mm focal lenght so it might be better suited for what you want. That being said, the 50mm 1.8 D is an excellent lens and weighs about as much as a teleconverter! You forget its attached to the body its so small and light. Very fast and sharp as a tack. Expect to pay about $120 plus shipping on ebay. All 50mm 1.8 D lenses were made in China by the way.
