I've got a $4,500 dollar budget. Should I buy a used mahogany billiard table with ivory accents or wait for the D700 replacement? If I get the D700 replacement what lenses should I buy? Will the kit lens be awesome or should I buy the 24mm f1.4G instead? I like to photograph cute kittens and flowers.

20+ years of enjoyment and countless number of photo opportunities vs. unannounced and still unknown D700 replacement that will last you 4 years. My vote - Mahogany billiard table.

How can we answer this intelligently without knowing what you're currently using, Super Shooter? I will say that if you don't have the ivory accents in your current kit, there's no question the table is the way to go. They add that certain I-don't-know-what and the kittens will still be cute when they're older.
Don't forget that the budget needs to cover the accessories, too. There's nothing like a well-built cue stick and if you buy second rate billiard balls you'll likely never have a satisfying balance or bounce from any of them, which can mean the difference between playing like an amateur and playing like a pro.
Just my two cents.Posted 2 years ago # -
But, jonnyapple should I wait for the Aramith Belgian tournament series replacements which are due out anytime now?

Hi,
"If I get the D700 replacement what lenses should I buy? Will the kit lens be awesome or should I buy the 24mm f1.4G instead?"
I thought you said you only have $4500? ;-)
My best,

I agree, I shoot with 35mm 1.8 on DX right now and I always want it to be wider- 24mm on DX would be great, 24 on FX would be freaking awesome.
You'd even have money left over, I think.

Man you got to get the table. Mahogany is very expensive, and deals like that only come around every now and then. They will make another camera with better specs by the time you save up for that... Good luck...

And if you "honey" is game, the table is definately the way to go. ;-)

Go with the table. I mean the felt is good right, table is perfect. Table is for a lifetime cameras can be temporary=( And as a added plus the table would be harder to steal.
