    Hi Folk's:
I did a topic search but couldn't find anthing similar. We have probably all seen the youtube videos of "What's in My Camera Bag". Apart from cameras, lenses and related photo gear, what else do you carry?

    I carry:

    - A swiss army knife
    - A small first aid kit
    - Compact binoculars
    - A couple of garbage bags
    - A GPS
    - Pain medication

    -swiss army knife
    -electrical tape
    -first aid/emergency kit
    -dental floss (hey, you asked)
-bike tube repair kit (but I've got goop in my tubes now, so I don't know why I bother)
    -white and black garbage bags
-lansinoh lanolin (the stuff they give out at hospitals to put on nursing mothers' nipples—it's the best stuff ever for avoiding chapped lips. I spend time outside in the winter and I'm sure I've spent hundreds of dollars looking for something that would keep my lips from splitting. They would split every winter until my wife was going to throw this stuff out and I decided to try it. It's $10 for a tube of it that lasts me about a year.)

    -a Leatherman
    -small flashlight
    -crewing gum
    -duct tape
-Crest cavity patrol badge (ive been asked for ID twice and was left alone because of this. I don't think they thought i was right in the head)

I don’t owe a camera bag, so I use my college backpack thus:

    -laptop
    -mp3 player
    -textbooks & other studying things
    -1 white garbage bag
    -couple of Ziploc bags
-Graber hand warmers (only in winter)
    -thin gloves (only in winter)
-US Canteen steel flask with hot tea (only in winter)
    -pack of cookies
    -couple of carabiners
    -deodorant
    -M&M’s
-Tracfone - I don’t like to carry it on me, so it stays in the backpack.
    -Media pass
    -Reporters notepad and pencil

Where in the world do you guys go? I tend to believe I'm not going to encounter grizzly bears so mine is a bit different.

I use three bags and all of them have the following:

    Chapstick
    A handfull of Baush&Lomb wipes
    2 micro cleaning cloths
    Notepad - pen, pencil, highlighter
    LED flashlight in pen
    About 8ft of hemp string
    Expodisk (Neutral) WB filter

We did have a thread a while back that hit the outdoor stuff. All of my outdoor gear bag stuff is on there.

Yeah, Tao . . . I listed all my "survival essentials" in that thread as well (I really like "list" threads).

Here's my problem: I can't seem to settle on a bag "strategy." Initially, I packed a traditional shoulder-strap camera bag (Photoflex). Then, a waistpack (again, Photoflex). Later I went the Lowepro backpack route. I quickly tired of that hassle, and moved to a complete belt-based, ThinkTank lens-pouch set-up. It's very fast-working, and great for when I'm out, dedicated to shooting only.

But, when I just want to "bring a camera somewhere" the belt is just too cumbersome to wear. So, just before Xmas, I got a small, cheap $14.95 shoulder-strap bag with a large Velcro flap, just large enough to hold a body with a lens (often, I want to just take a body and two short lenses).

Okay, back on-topic. Here's what's actually in my bag right now:

    1. One bottle of Rosco lens fluid.
    2. One pad of Rosco lens tissue.

That's it! That's all I ever seem to remember to bring! Half the time, I forget to bring my polarizers!

I generally always choose my lenses moments before I leave, so it's always a mixed bag, pardon the pun. But, I never leave the house without at least lens tissue, fluid, and a monopod.

Here's the things that I keep meaning to take, but which never seem to end up in my "last-minute assortment of crap I throw in my bag." Coincidentally, I just cleaned out some boxes this evening, and found a treasure trove of forgotten photo goodies that I can pack in my bag right now:

    1. Mikros microfiber lens cloths (I found two).
    2. LED penlight.
    3. Reversable Phillips/slotted "pen" screwdriver.
    4. Moleskin notepad.
    5. Pen.
    6. Pair of Nikon compact binoculars (got these for Xmas!).
    7. Leatherman Micra (another Xmas gift!).

Here's what's in my bag (actually, on a belt, in a bag) that I use for work:

    1. Leatherman Wave.
    2. Streamlight LED flashlight.
    3. Crescent Rapidslide adjustable wrench.
    4. Spectra Low-Light Candela footcandle meter.
    5. Viewing glass.
    6. Suunto compass.
    7. Filmtools pouch.
    8. Setwear gloves and glove clip.

I don't carry a lot of extras, mostly for weight reasons.

    1.LED flashlight
2.Bear Spray (There are bears everywhere in British Columbia)
    3.Batteries
    4.Plastic bags
    5.Water bottle
6.Fold-up (tripod) stool (fits perfectly in the tripod holder on my bag)

Wow you guys carry a ton of stuff. In my bag apart from lenses, body and flash is just
    Extra AA batteries
    Lens Cloth
    Rocket Blower
    Extra Memory Card

If I was going somewhere that I needed to hike/be outside I would bring a separate backpack that I use when hiking. I also don't like the idea of keeping any food or water near my camera stuff. I would never put anything like that in my camera bag.

There's some good ideas here (that's why I like list threads so much)! My favorite is Treckie's hankerchief idea, for use as an impromptu flash diffuser.

Camera, lenses, flash, Nikon 6T, wired and wireless remotes

Leitz tabletop tripod and ball head with Kirk mini adapter plate
    Nikon 10x25 Sportstar binoculars
Archos 705 Media Player / image backup
Lowepro pouch with: SD cards, card reader, USB cord for Archos
    Extra Arca-style base plate
Lens Pen, microfiber cloth, blower, sensor cleaning kit
    D80 and SB800 manuals
    Small and large trash bags
    Optech Rainsleeve
Digital Image Flow's Digital Kolor Kard
LCD Loupe (like Hoodman, but DIY from old Coastar slide viewer)
    Leatherman Super
Bandaids, aspirin, Pepcid, cotton swabs, matches
Flexible head LCD penlight/laser pointer with magnetic base
Spare batteries for penlight and SB800
    Flash dome and reflector
    SB800 stand with Arca plate
Cel phone headset (small earbud type)
    Moeskine 3.5x5.5" notebook
    Pen
    Media Pass

Most of this stuff is probably familiar, except perhaps the Archos 705. This 7" LCD touchscreen media player has an 80 gig drive which allows me to back up SD cards in a pinch and also carries music and video to occupy me when there's nothing to shoot. Also contains a portfolio of work to show potential customers and has a primitive but occasionally useful wifi internet capability.

Of all the stuff on the list, I probably use the Archos most, but the thing that has seriously saved my bacon more times than anything else is the Leitz tabletop tripod. It wasn't cheap but it has been invaluable. It's a great tripod, very solid and well-built. It also works well as a chest pod (with just two legs spread out), and it also makes a great little light stand for the SB800.

Nice kyoshinikon, the guy in those youtube videos does some interesting stuff. He's actually a serious shooter sometimes as well I've seen him shoot with an M9 in Hong Kong.

Good first post! The more detail in these "list" threads, the better, IMO! Would like to get an Archos-type device someday. Will check into the Leitz as well! Welcome to NR!
