Taken no flash with the 35mm f1.8 DX on my D7000 set on auto/no flash or Apperture (can't remember and will post specifics later), in a dark bedroom with the only lighting coming from outside the bedroom door about six feet behind me.
I am very impressed with the low light capabilities of this gem.

My dang flash misfired and ended up being one of my favorite pictures from yesterday, go figure! LOL This is Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallen and her husband at the pre-inauguration.
Side note: While shooting the event all these Highway Patrolmen showed up out of nowhere, along with guys in suits wearing bullet proof vests. Then when I went out to smoke in the parking lot it looked like some type of military invasion as more Highway Patrolmen were canvasing the area. Then we got word of what had just happened in Arizona.

WOW! That is tough decor to see when you arrive after a long flight with sand in your eyes. Nice picture.

Right on the money jonny, D3100, AF-S 300mm F4 w/TC14E. I normally use a D300, but the D3100 has better high ISO performance, so when I know the lighting is going to be bad I take the D3100. I bought it as a hold over till I decide whether I'm going to go FX or not.
As for birders, well it is an expensive arm of photography, and no overly exciting gear that would be relevant to birders has come from Nikon lately, so that might be why you don't see many here now.
